"Touch" is the buzzword at Lenovo at CES 2013
CES 2013 is upon us, so prepare for an onslaught of new products announcements from the usual suspects. We've already seen that Lenovo is looking to bring its
big screen tablet PC to the living room this summer
, but the company also has a number of "traditional"
PC designs on the way this year.
Lenovo is revamping its IdeaPad U310 and U410 mainstream Ultrabook designs with 10-finger multi-touch support. As before, the notebooks can be equipped with third-generation Intel Core i7 processors and NVIDIA GeForce graphics. Lenovo's IdeaPad Z400 and Z500 laptops have also been upgraded to support 10-finger touch to take full advantage of Windows 8. The IdeaPad U310 Touch will start at $779 when it launches in March, while the U410 Touch will be priced from $850 when it hits stores in April. The IdeaPad Z400 Touch and Z500 Touch are both priced at $699 and will be available in March and April respectively.

And if that wasn't enough on the touch-enabled front, Lenovo has also announced the new IdeaCentre A730 all-in-one PC. The A730 can be equipped with either a 1920x1080 Full HD display or an optional 2560x1440 Quad HD display. As with the Ultrabooks mentioned previously, it supports 10-finger multi-touch and the latest Intel Core processors. The IdeaCentre A730 will launch in June with a starting price of $1,499.
Lenovo's new ThinkPad Edge E431 and E531 support a new, proprietary OneLink interface which promises to offer plenty of functionality now, and in the future. The interface is designed to eliminate cable clutter, and the first device compatible with the new interface is the ThinkPad OneLink Dock. The OneLink Dock provides dedicated HDMI and audio connections along with four USB ports. In addition, the OneLink Dock will also charge the notebooks through the OneLink Port.
While the OneLink Dock is the first accessory designed around the new OneLink interface, Lenovo plans to make new peripherals available throughout the course of the year. The new ThinkPad Edge models will be available in May starting at $539, while the ThinkPad OneLink Dock will debut this May for $99.
On the "all-new" front is Lenovo's new liquid-cooled Erazer X700 gaming PC. This marks quite a departure from Lenovo's traditional strong points, but looks to capture the enthusiast gaming market. The Erazer X700 is powered by Intel Core processors and can be equipped with either NVIDIA GeForce or AMD Radeon graphics cards. It supports up to 4TB of storage space and up to 32GB of system memory. The Erazer X700 will be priced from $1,499 when it launches in June.

No Point to Having TouchScreen Laptop
1/7/2013 12:34:02 AM
There's no point in having a touchscreen laptop. Laptops already come with a touchpad. When I bought my Lenovo laptop early last year, I immediately bought a Logitech M300 wireless mouse. Using a wireless mouse is more convenient, easier and quicker than using a touchscreen. A touchscreen-equipped laptop is more expensive and also pointless.
What the market needs is a tablet which runs Windows 8 Pro and is equal in performance to a laptop. I think a 4 core Haswell-equipped tablet with 16 GB RAM, 256 GB mSSD, USB 3.0 and HDMI would fill this need:
Crucial m4 256GB mSATA Internal Solid State Drive CT256M4SSD3
The company which makes the tablet must also allow the user/owner to upgrade it himself.
"Intel is investing heavily (think gazillions of dollars and bazillions of engineering man hours) in resources to create an Intel host controllers spec in order to speed time to market of the USB 3.0 technology." -- Intel blogger Nick Knupffer
