The Slider S20 will make its way to consumers in Q1 2013 for $1,199.99 USD

While Windows 8 hasn't had the best sales record in Microsoft OS history, more devices continue to roll onto store shelves in hopes of attracting customers, and MSI Computer Corp. is adding one more to that list.

MSI announced the Slider S20 Ultrabook Convertible, which is a new Windows 8-powered device that claims to be both slim and powerful.

The Slider S20 features 8GB of DDR3 memory, 128GB of SSD storage, 1920x1080 resolution, a weight of 2.2 pounds, a 1-inch thick body and a slew of connectivity options like a Jackson Peak Wireless adapter, Ethernet, Bluetooth, a mini HDMI-out connector, a 720p HD webcam and two USB3 ports.

“Many users prefer the mobility of a tablet, but still need the processing power of an actual laptop computer,” said Andy Tung, vice president of sales for MSI US.  “MSI’s S20 Ultrabook Convertible solves that problem by combining the best of both worlds, giving users the choice of using it as a tablet or as a laptop.”

Microsoft's latest operating system could use some help in the device sales department. It was recently reported that Windows 8 usage has sunk below Windows Vista levels, which is a bad sign early on considering Vista was one of the most-hated Microsoft operating systems.

Windows 8 was released in October 2012. Not long ago, Microsoft said that it had sold 40 million licenses, which it said surpassed sales of Windows 7 for an equivalent period in 2009. But license sales were not actual device sales.


Market research group Net Applications found that Windows 8 accounted for a mere 1.72 percent of traffic at the end of December. Three weeks after its 2009 launch, Windows 7 grabbed 4 percent of the OS market. Vista reported about 2.2 percent of the total traffic after its first two months of release, which is about a third more than Windows 8's current percentage.

Really? Cause I sucked up a Lenovo Yoga 13 (Convertible) almost the day windows 8 launched, and people drool all over the damned thing when I show it to them. There’s a market for these things, and I’ll guarantee you that in 2 years, if a laptop isn’t touchscreen and convertible, it won’t sell.

I’ll also tell you that once you get used the new interface, Windows 8 is very enjoyable. I’ve abandoned all my concerns about it.

Mostly people can't justify the cost of the tablets or convertibles at this point. Acer makes a 14" touchscreen 3rd generation i5 at $699 which is $300 less than the Yoga, so convertibles should be able to hit at least around $699 with i3s, but they are much more.

Personal preference would have me using a tablet, but there isn't anything available now that I like, so for now I use my 10" Android Tablet at home. There is only a few times that I boot up my laptop and those are for things that could have easily been done on the tablet if not for the incapability in the browser.
