"Oppa Gangnam Style!"
There are viral videos, and then there are viral videos. Psy's "Gangnam Style" seemed to come out of nowhere just five short months ago and has rocketed the South Korean musician to worldwide stardom.
Along the way, "Gangnam Style" broke the Guinness World Record for the most liked video in YouTube history. Speaking back in late September, Guinness World Records Community Manager Dan Barrett stated, "Having been the 'Have you seen this?!' video of the last two months across the web, it's great to be able to award a record for this tremendously popular video. In years past it was unthinkable that something would be viewed a hundred million times."
Now, "Gangnam Style" has broken another record; it's become the first video in YouTube history to cross the 1 billion views threshold. The next closet video is Justin Bieber's "Baby" with just over 813 million views.
We don't know how long the Psy Train will last here in the United States, but the catchy tune and eccentric video should be enough to buy Psy a few more minutes until his 15 minutes of fame is up. With that being said, anything that knocks Justin Bieber down a notch or two can't be all bad.
