RIM gets a second chance

Many enterprise and federal customers have been abandoning RIM’s BlackBerry platform. One of the last federal agencies to drop the BlackBerry smartphone in favor the iPhone was the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency. However, it looks like RIM might get a second chance with ICE.

ICE is set to begin a pilot program early next year to test the new line of BlackBerry 10 smartphones. The pilot program will also involve testing of BlackBerry software to manage the smartphones on the ICE network.
"Given the nature of a rapidly evolving marketplace for mobile computing and the rising expectations of our users ... the pilot with RIM is a prudent technology management practice," said Barbara Gonzalez, the agency's press secretary.

Just the thought of being able to get back into the federal agency was enough to help send shares of RIM up over 6% Thursday morning. BlackBerry 10 is set to launch on January 30 and the new devices are crucial to RIM remaining viable in the marketplace.
BlackBerry smartphones have been continually losing out to the iPhone and Android devices at many federal agencies. Some of the reason BlackBerry devices have fallen out of favor have to do with expensive software required to manage the devices.

"Our priority is to ensure that ICE and all government agencies understand the full capabilities of the new BlackBerry 10 platform and how it can help them meet their mobility needs today and in the future," said Scott Totzke, RIM's senior vice president of BlackBerry Security.

When ICE announced its plans to stop using BlackBerry devices in October, it stated that BlackBerry smartphones "no longer meet the mobile technology needs of the agency." ICE had planned to buy iPhones for its approximately 17,600 employees.

suddenly turned into small softy possies the moment RIM seems to be coming back eh? haha two stupid trolls, not trolling much about RIM these days huh? ;))) come here pussy pussy pussy :))) I know mick is coward and won't reply once caught lying but where's the dumb boy retro? come out of hiding eh!

btw I just tried my brand new 64GB Surface with type cover, sweet stuff! although I wish it had less angular shape, more organic. I feel like Playbook is the king in industrial design design (even slightly better than iPad, judging by my fiddling with iPad in the local Apple store) and touch-feel wise. Surface is nice but... it's nice only if you have not experienced Playbook before. on the scale of things I'd put Playbook one and iPad with Surface sharing second spot, design-feel wise. Surface has an edge over iPad with better color and material of the case but I don't like angularity and sharp edges. and iPad sucks compared to Playbook because of size/heft and poor choice of material and color of the case.

I mean, most of trolls here who never tried Playbook (Tony, mototroll, retro, mick, cheesy clown etc etc) won't know what I'm talking about so it's more like for the experts who tried ALL touch platforms currently on the market

hey if Nexus seven has the same design as Playbook it's a big plus but I never saw it in my local stores so can't judge ;)

otherwise the win rt os is fast and smooth, gestures/multitasking/split panes ROCK!!! office of course works 100% and keyboard is the best. I mean definitely MS has put a ton of design effort into the whole thing, I think Surface is the best notebook I ever used, seriously. besides being a nice tablet. err... apart from the lack of compatibility with x86 legacy apps of course

man, it installed _one gigabyte_ of updates after I unpacked it, wowza!!!

after trying it out for one day I'm starting to wonder who are the idiots who buy iPads (I mean Tony and the others like religious zealots but these are very few, there must be some issue with normal non-zelot people who still buy iPads... maybe they like fart apps or somethin). but I'll post later on the topic, maybe iPad has its place but... now I'm not so sure

installed about 50 apps on Surface already, still have like 30 gigs left free. overall I invested about 100 bucks in windows store games, hehe. now I kinda start to understand why people like Apple so much :P Ballmer does the right thing when he copies Apple so often. app store is a great idea! cudos to Jobs for implementing it

ok ok, if you buy iPad because you invested a lot of money into iPad apps you are not an idiot. here, I said it.

to be continued...
