The hybrid RLX is due out at the end of 2013

Acura has unveiled its 2014 RLX Sedan at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show, and a hybrid version is expected to be released next year. 
 
Acura's 2014 RLX Sedan is being touted as the automaker's most technologically advanced sedan ever, with a 310 HP direct-injected SOHC 24-Valve i-VTEC V6 engine with Variable Cylinder Management and estimated fuel economy ratings of 20 MPG city, 31 MPG highway and 24 MPG combined. 

 
It will also have Precision All-Wheel Steer, which is the first to offer independent and continuous control of both the right and left rear-wheel steering angles; the next-generation AcuraLink connectivity system; Lane Keeping Assist System, and Forward Collision Warning safety systems. 
 
What's especially interesting is that the 2014 RLX Sedan has a hybrid version. The hybrid will have Acura's new Sport Hybrid Super Handling All-Wheel Drive, which puts out 370 HP, and is expected to get a fuel rating of 30 MPG city, 30 MPG highway and 30 MPG combined. Those looking to buy the hybrid will get a chance near the end of 2013. 
 
The RLX Sedan will have other impressive features, such as metal, wood and leather interior, an 8-inch Navigation screen and a 7-inch On-Demand Multi-Use Display touchscreen.

 
"The 2014 Acura RLX heralds the introduction of a number of new signature Acura technologies that provide the driver a feeling of connection to the product, to the road, and to the world from the very moment they enter the vehicle," said Jeff Conrad, vice president and general manager of Acura Sales. "The RLX embodies the Acura commitment to create vehicles with outstanding handling that truly respond to the will of the driver."

 
Earlier this year, Acura announced the NSX Sport Hybrid at the 2012 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), which was a comeback for the vehicle that had gone on hiatus in 2005. The NSX Hybrid has the Super Handling All-Wheel Drive and a direct-injection VTEC V6 engine with three electric motors. 
 
Acura also announced the the ILX Concept at NAIAS 2012, which has a gas-electric hybrid powertrain option.

I'm surprised they kept the silver beak, even if it is refined from current Acuras. I thought that styling feature got a lot of flak.

looks like a Saab 9-5 in the front. Honda should fire the design chief and bring the diesels while they are at it.

I think they're finally getting somewhere with that look. They went overboard with the 2009-2011 TL, the 2012+ was better. The MDX is not bad. The RLX refines it a little more, and the ILX is the best version of that vision yet. In person with the OEM body kit it looks bad ass.

Let's keep the ZDX out of the conversation though. Even I can't defend that horror.

Well...

A car company has two objectives I think.

Its great to make a car thats a real "work of art", but at the same time, the cars need to sell.

Acura's best year in the US was 2005 when they moved ~210,000 units on 5 models and they had been increasing year over year sales. In 2009, they moved ~100,000 units on 5 models (replacing the RSX with the RDX), a market adjusted fall of 25%. (Keep in mind from 2001-2005 they had market adjusted increase of more than 10%).

Given the good mechanicals, good feature set, and generally good price of most Acuras... the only reason I can think to buy a different model (Say a Lexus ES over a TL) would be the .... interesting... design choices. I am constantly surprized by Honda's stubborness on some points. The IMA Hybrid system is crap for the US/EPA (yet showed up here in the Civic, Insight, CRZ, etc)

I'm not saying they should design works of art (they don't anyway ;) ), just that their design language is coming into its own. I remember the first CTS and SRX when Cadillac came out with their new look. One was funky looking and the other was ugly as sin. It took them a few years to get it right.

Also they have a much stronger line up now than what they had a few years ago. The ILX should sell really well, the MDX is one of the best full size luxury SUV, and the TL is an hidden gem (especially with the manual). I see a lot more of them on the roads now.
