They're all expected to hit dealerships in 2013

Audi is going crazy for diesels as it gears up to release four new TDI clean diesel models in the U.S. throughout 2013. 

Audi has announced that it will be releasing the Audi A8 TDI, Audi A7 TDI, Audi A6 TDI and Audi Q5 TDI next year. All four models are part of Audi's TDI clean diesel engine lineup, and they debuted at the Los Angeles Auto Show. 

According to Audi, each of the TDI vehicles offer 30 percent greater fuel economy and 30 percent reduced carbon dioxide emissions than gasoline engines.

“Owners of Audi TDI engines have helped save over 4 million gallons of gasoline, or the equivalent of more than 240,000 barrels of foreign oil, since the introduction of Audi TDI to the U.S. in 2009,” said Scott Keogh, President, Audi of America. ” And, TDI technology delivers better fuel efficiency without sacrificing performance.”

All four models will have Audi's 3.0-liter V6 turbocharged diesel engine, which offers 240 HP and 406 lb.-ft. of torque. 

In the A8 TDI, which is Audi's flagship sedan, the vehicle's set up is expected to return 24 MPG city and 36 MPG highway. The Audi Q7 TDI, which has been available since September 2012, gets 19 MPG city and 28 MPG highway. 

While there's no word on pricing quite yet, the A8 TDI will make its way to dealerships in the U.S. in Spring 2013 while the A7 TDI, A6 TDI and Q5 TDI will all come later in Fall 2013.

Well... Got my used 2009 Jetta TDI for 21k, it had about 40000km on it, not even broken in for a diesel. I get over 800km on a 55l tank in the city, and about 1100 plus on the hwy. I only need an oil change every 15000 km to keep warranty (I usually do one every ten). I can re flash the ecu, and go to 330 ft/lb of torque at about 1800 rpm, will once my bumper to bumper Warr is done. And I can increase fuel mileage by cutting out the 170lb DPF when I flash it. However, I don't plan to go that far unless some nasty dpf maintenance comes up in like 3-4 years.

The 140hp its rated at is a bit of an inside joke, because of the torque that's early and plentiful. I climb thru the rockies in 6th if I feel like it, as I am not having to downshift. Unlike my WRX, I don't have to be screaming along with high revs to have power. It's just there.

Until I can get myself a volt type power train, TDIs are pretty darn close to that solid high efficiency high torque drive that is really very nice.

As to diesel bearing a higher tax burden then gas, wouldn't that make sense if fuel is taxed by its energy content?

Also my running avg via fuelly is 5.9 l / 100 km. My best tank was 5l/100km.... Not bad at all. Especially with pretty much dick all for maintenance.

That's all nice and dandy but even if fuel economy vs fuel price gives us approximate parity between money spent per mile in diesel vs gas, even then gas cars are still cheaper than diesels so still doesn't make any economical sense to buy them.

5.9 l / 100 km = 39.8668785 miles / US gallon.
Ran that through Google calc for the 'Murricans. Doesn't actually sound super-impressive.
