They're all expected to hit dealerships in 2013

Audi is going crazy for diesels as it gears up to release four new TDI clean diesel models in the U.S. throughout 2013.

Audi has announced that it will be releasing the Audi A8 TDI, Audi A7 TDI, Audi A6 TDI and Audi Q5 TDI next year. All four models are part of Audi's TDI clean diesel engine lineup, and they debuted at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

According to Audi, each of the TDI vehicles offer 30 percent greater fuel economy and 30 percent reduced carbon dioxide emissions than gasoline engines.

“Owners of Audi TDI engines have helped save over 4 million gallons of gasoline, or the equivalent of more than 240,000 barrels of foreign oil, since the introduction of Audi TDI to the U.S. in 2009,” said Scott Keogh, President, Audi of America. ” And, TDI technology delivers better fuel efficiency without sacrificing performance.”

All four models will have Audi's 3.0-liter V6 turbocharged diesel engine, which offers 240 HP and 406 lb.-ft. of torque.

In the A8 TDI, which is Audi's flagship sedan, the vehicle's set up is expected to return 24 MPG city and 36 MPG highway. The Audi Q7 TDI, which has been available since September 2012, gets 19 MPG city and 28 MPG highway.

While there's no word on pricing quite yet, the A8 TDI will make its way to dealerships in the U.S. in Spring 2013 while the A7 TDI, A6 TDI and Q5 TDI will all come later in Fall 2013.

Where's the A4? Sell an A4 avant TDI here with manual transmission and I'll buy one immediately. Although this is good news that their putting TDI's into more models for the US. I drove an A4 with the older 2.7 TDI in europe a few years ago, and the torque was bone crushing, it was amazing to drive.

A TDI motor is coming with the next generation B9 A4. The current B8 generation won't get it.

It was rumored earlier this year the Passat would get the new motor as well. That car is underpowered with the 2.0 TDI already.

Ideally, VW would drop the 3.6 and swap it with the 3.0 TDI And keep the current gasser for lamers.

Underpowered? Maybe, but the available low-RPM torque makes the everyday driving experience at least as good as the gas versions, and none of them can approach the 40-50 mpg that the Passat TDI returns. Sure it's a tradeoff, but it's hard to comprehend this efficiency in a full-size auto; plus an 800 mile driving range is ridiculous.

You don't need to sacrifice power for an 800 mile driving range.
Don't know if you remember the Top Gear episode - Series 4 Episode 4.

Clarkson drives an Audi A8 TDI - the V8, yes, a 4 litre 275hp/480lb-ft (later replaced by an even faster 4.2l) 800 miles on a 20 gallon tank.

That's right we don't get the V8 diesel here. :(

Before you get excited remember that Clarkson always quotes stuff in imperial gallons cause he's English. The American gallon is 20% bigger so the mileage sounds 20% better in the UK.
