Users report issues across a wide range of vehicles
Windows Phone 8, Microsoft Corp.'s (
) latest and greates mobile operating system
launched last month
. In the last couple weeks as the
first devices have become available
there have been growing
reports of serious bugs
The latest issues reported have been problems with the phone's Bluetooth connectivity. According to
seven pages of user complaints
, the new phones are failing to connect across a wide range of makes and models from various automakers. Calls over Bluetooth have also been getting dropped or put on hold.
Some users report having successfully used Windows Phone 7.5 devices with their vehicles for months, only to lose support when they upgraded.
So far there's been no word from Microsoft on when a fix may arrive.
In our last piece on Windows Phone 8 bugs, some commenters took issue with our reporting on the problems, arguing they weren't widespread. DamianRobertJones comments:
I call 'rubbish' on this article.
There are issues, sure, but as far as I can see/am aware it's not serious... yet
And Varun responds:
I agree 100% and this thread seems to point to some very happy people:
Let us know what you think -- should we not cover these issues? Do you consider them a serious problem? Would it be unfair to cover the iPhone 5's
battery life/wallet-draining data bug
, but not report on Windows Phone 8 bugs? Or does Microsoft deserve some slack since it's still trying to emerge as a serious competitor?
Have you been affected? Let us know your thoughts, we're listening.

New Lumia 920 Windows 8 phone from AT&T does NOT work with Bluetooth uConnect systems
12/10/2012 11:13:11 AM
I have a new Lumia 920 Windows 8 phone from AT&T, and it does NOT work with Bluetooth connections in either of our two Jeeps. Both are newer cars (2012 models) with 430N Media Center and uConnect Bluetooth connectivity.
For the last 9 months we have been using the Samsung Windows 7.5 and iPhone 4, and they both have been working prefectly in these two cars.
The Windows 8 Phone will successfully pair, but it is unusable for hands-free conversations.
It will occasionally auto-connect, but mostly it doesn’t without manual intervention.
When it does connect, phone conversations are one-sided, meaning we can hear the other person, but they cannot hear us.
Voice commands over Bluetooth do not work.
I've tried lots of things to get this to work, including deleting the device pairing (several times) and starting the pairing process over from scratch. It always shows that it successfully paired with no indication of a problem, but the bad symptoms never change and the phone is unusable.
I also called AT&T enhanced support for help. They told me that this is a known Bluetooth bug, and that we should expect a fix from Microsoft. They speculated the fix will be provided in a month or two. I wish I knew if this was true.
