In other news, researchers have discovered people don't want to pay $36,050 for an ugly all electric piece of garbage.

Someone should give those researchers a medal! :D

It’s funny how car companies manage to still make ugly as shit cars these days. It’s like noone ever takes a step back when they design them and says "You know what? Scrap this, it’s fucking ugly!"

Why do they keep trying to make these cars unconventional looking is beyond me.

While it's not the prettiest thing, there are many popular makes and models I personally find hideous; beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

The reality is that this is built and billed as an economy vehicle, yet simple arithmetic will tell you that people with limited needs and intelligence do not have nor would ever throw $40k at a compact.

And, just for the record, people do not jump vehicles to "save" the planet over "getting off oil" and pseudo-zero emissions. That's a non-starter. People took advantage of Cash-For-Clunkers to reap personal benefit at the expense of taxpayers and service industries who are still recovering from that catastrophically idiotic policy.

Any company reaps what it sows for putting trends before business sense.

The only thing Cash for Clunkers was good for was getting the cars with Obama/Biden bumper stickers off the road.

beauty is not in the eye of the beholder.

Most "normal" guys find Heidi Klum much much hotter than Barbara Walter. I speak on behalf of straight men, off course.

and yeah, this car is hideous!! i wouldnt be caught dead in it unless Nissan was paying me to drive it. and paying the bills to charge it up.

I'm surprised the Pontiac Aztec was never an electric vehicle.

The Pontiac Aztek is not ugly compared to some others. Take the square box looking Scion, now that's ugly. If GM make that, people would be complaining at how ugly it is.

Sorry but the Pontiac Aztek is/was one of the ugly cars ever made. The only thing it was good for was laughing at the idiots seen driving it down the road.

The Aztek is Butt-Fugly!!!!

Someone beat that poor bastard with an ugly stick and when it fell out of the ugly tree, it hit its face on every branch on the way down.

I don't know what it is about Nissan but they've been making some of the fugliest cars on the market recently:

- Rogue
- Murano
- Juke
- Cube

Not only that, but their vehicles are almost all overpriced by $5K-$10K for their particular class. A Maxima's base price is now $32K, pricing it near cars like the BMW 3 Series. If I'm looking at cars that start at that price I'm not going to be considering a non-luxury brand like Nissan. Cars like the Camry and Accord both have V6 models about $10K less base.

Even their GT-R and Z cars look pretty bad compared to the previous designs which had more angular, aggressive styling cues. Looks like the design team behind the Pontiac Asstek found a job at Nissan.

You know how when you have enough beer, every gal starts looking ok(ish)? I guess the car builders think if you spend enough on their cars, they'll start looking ok(ish), too.

I'd buy this car as my commuter, as a second car, only if it was $10k.

Yup. Infact, I think there would be countless Nissan Leafs (Leaves?) across the country if they were this cheap. It's a commuter car and nothing more, so it needs to be able to meet that price point.

The problem is, I have to drive to an airport 130 miles away, and I need the capability of doing that in a single round trip. Anything less than 300 miles @ 70+mph is totally useless to me.

The train is no alternative - if I take a morning flight, I'd have to take the train the day before and stay overnight in a hotel, or if the flight is in the evening, I'd have to take time off work to get there in time. Sorry, but hell no.

If Nissan could make Leaf technology work and reasonably price it for the Xterra SUV, they might have a hit on their hands.
