Microsoft/Nokia/AT&T are going for the throat with Lumia 920 pricing

Is $99 for the Nokia Lumia 920 cheap enough to make you switch to Windows Phone 8?

A lot of people simply don't like the UI. Ever think that the main reason why Win Phone has been such a failure so far is because when people go into a carrier and look at the phones, they don't like what they see?

Remember that WebOS got the geek vote in reviews as being the "best" phone OS. It received great reviews. Even the phone, despite some problems was given good reviews. This was all much better than what Win Phone received.

Nevertheless, it failed. It was too different from what people seemed to like. Win Phone is like that, except with much more modest reviews. Microsoft has made such a big deal about getting on and off the phone as quickly as possible that it turns people off. People really like using their smartphones, and any company that tries to convince them otherwise is paddling against the tide.

In addition, moving to Win Phone is going into the unknown. It's acknowledged that so far, Win Phone apps aren't very good, and there aren't a heck of a lot of useful ones. Other phones, for example have worked better with Office and Exchange than Microsoft's own devices have. Despite improvements in that area, people will remember the problems and remain skeptical for some time.

I have no doubt that people new to smartphones will be more interested, but most people are pretty happy with how their devices are now, and Win Phone offers nothing substantially better, and is a step backwards in some regards. It's main selling point is that it's different, and being different with nothing much better to offer isn't a recipe for success.

I'm not convinced WebOS was that good, I tried the Palms out (having been a big fan of Palm in the past) and it wasn't just a case of not being familiar with the UI, I just didn't find it very good compared to other devices. Reviews boasted about how great the multitasking was but I found it very slow and clumsy compared to others, particularly Maemo which had a far better multitasking implementation.

Similarly the few tech friends of mine that did buy one and initially persevered with it didn't like it either and gave up on it despite having spent time getting to know the interface.
