Holy Cow! That's cheap!

Last month, Best Buy jumped the gun a bit with pricing for the new Nokia Lumia 920 Windows Phone 8 device. At the time, the electronics retailer listed pricing for the smartphone at $149 with a new two-year contract.
However, AT&T has just officially opened up the pre-order lines for the Lumia 920, and it's only charging $99 with a two-year contract. Its lowly Lumia 820 sibling will be available for $49 with a two-year contract. Pre-orders begin tomorrow.

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer has already stated he expects that Windows Phone 8 sales and market share would “ramp quickly”, and this bargain basement pricing may be just the ticket to get some traction in the competitive smartphone market.
So what do you guys think? Is $99 for a flagship phone enough to get you to switch from iOS or Android to Windows Phone 8?

Nice, but...

In general I'm not in favor of subsidized phone prices that come with a long-term contract and an associated ETF. I'd prefer that people be aware of what they're paying for a phone, and then be able to just simply get service from whatever company they want for any timeframe they want, without penalty. Just like we do with landlines.

Having said that, psychologically $99 is a very compelling price. If there were anything wrong with my current phone such that I was considering buying a new one, I'd strongly consider this one.

If it had a real keyboard that is. At some point someone will release a nice Win8 phone with a keyboard, and then I'd be interested.

The on-screen keyboard on Windows Phone is by far the best I've used on a touch screen device. From the reviews I've seen, WP8 takes this to the next level.

I would be keeping the service anyway....why not go ahead and get a new phone. It's not like once the contract runs out that they will come down off the price of the monthly service since the subsidy has been fulfilled.
