Amazon Prime Monthly service  (Source: Hacking Netflix)
Monthly subscription will cost more than yearly rate

Historically, the only way to get an Amazon Prime subscription was to pay one $79 per year fee. However, Amazon is now offering a monthly Prime subscription at $7.99 per month. To get people to try out Prime, Amazon is even offering up a free one-month trial of the service. After that one-month trial, the Prime membership will cost $7.99 per month.

Perhaps the best thing about the monthly service is that there is no minimum order size to get free two-day shipping on millions of items. The real and often overlooked benefit of Prime is the dirt-cheap next-day shipping. For somewhere around three dollars, you can get your items the next day.

Monthly prime subscribers also get unlimited instant streaming of movies and TV shows with Prime Instant Video and a free Kindle digital book each month from the Kindle Owners Lending Library. Amazon is obviously getting very serious about its streaming video offering with the monthly price of $7.99. It's on par with Netflix and Hulu Plus, with one major benefit over both of those services of having free shipping on all sorts of products sold by Amazon and a free digital book each month.

I just use Amazon for everything these days so I use the hell out of my $79. That and if you need something the next day just $4 will get it to your door. That's faster than me going to a store to buy it! $79/year is a bargain but I do wish the bastards would release an app for Android.

I don't think I've paid for next day more than once or twice. 2nd day is great for procrastination; beyond that the margin between Two Days Is Good Enough and I Need It Right Now that justifies spending an hour driving and paying retail markups have made it mostly irrelevant to me. Finally Amazon's sameday service is unlikely to be rolled out to where I live unless they grow another order of magnitude (at which point they're in the same size class as WalMarx).

I assume you are talking about for watching videos, because I wouldn't mind having that as well, but for shopping their app is awesome. If I see an item in a store that I like I will frequently scan it for reviews and to see how much Amazon charges for it, I buy pretty much everything through Amazon now since I switched to prime.
