Windows 8 and Atom power for $800?
AT&T announced today that it would carry Samsung's ATIV Smart PC on its growing LTE wireless network. Unlike
Microsoft's $499 Surface
, which runs Windows RT, the ATIV Smart PC features an x86 processor and runs
, meaning that it has backwards compatibility with the full Windows application library.
The promise of backwards compatibility, however, is soured a bit by the fact that the ATIV Smart PC uses a 1.5GHz, dual-core Intel Atom processor. Don't expect to be tackling any high-power applications with this tablet.
Other features include an 11.6" display (1366x768) and 64GB of storage (expandable to 96GB via the devices microSD slot).
“We are excited to offer the Samsung ATIV smart PC in stores nationwide ahead of the holiday shopping season,” said Chris Penrose, SVP of AT&T Emerging Devices. “Connected by the nation’s largest 4G network, this Windows 8 tablet gives customers optimized touch interface, instant live tile updates and PC capabilities."
The Samsung's ATIV Smart PC will be priced at $799 and will launch on November 9.

Who are they marketing this for???

$799 + service contract. Who are they marketing this thing for? Who needs to have a computer connected 24/7...sure a cell phone or small pad or something but sheesh, what a waste of money. I'd say that most of us are wifi connected 75-80% of the time anyway. And carrying around an 11" pad isn't exactly super portable....and it's $799! I could be a pretty good equally portable laptop for that and could do more work on it than a tablet.
let me guess....the optional keyboard is going to run you an extra $150 or so.
