UK judges to Apple: "Not good enough!"

Last week, Apple posted a notice on its UK website which indicated that Samsung didn't copy the iPad when it designed the Galaxy Tab family of tablets. Of course, Apple didn't do this out of the kindness of its heart -- it was ordered to do so by a UK court.

In keeping with Apple’s typical demeanor towards its competitors, the notice posted on its website was rather flippant and pointed to how the Samsung tablets weren’t deemed to be as “cool” as the iPad. Apple also pointed out in its notice that it had won judgments against Samsung in both German and U.S. courts.

It appears, however, that UK judges weren't amused by Apple's play on words, and called the Cupertino, California-based company's statements "incorrect" and "untrue".

According to Bloomberg News, the U.K. Court of Appeal in London has ordered Apple to remove the notice from its website within 24 hours to correct the inaccuracies. It also has to post a new, revised version within 48 hours.

“I’m at a loss that a company such as Apple would do this,” said a puzzled Judge Robin Jacob. “That is a plain breach of the order.”

One of Samsung's lawyers, Henry Carr, piled on by starting that Apple's original notice left the “impression that the U.K. court is out of step with other courts” by mentioning the judgments in Apple's favor by German and U.S. courts.

i own a macbook air.
now that that's out of the way, here goes:

every company is entitled to protect its intellectual property, and has a duty to protect it as ferociously as humanly possible, lest competitors exploit its weakness.
every one of us, if put into the position of CEO, would try to do the same.

what i resent though is the way in which apple conducts itself. they have not invented many of the things they claim to have invented; other patents are for painfully obvious things (and thus should not be patentable in the first place). their strategy appears to be based on two things:
- a PR campaign stating that the other guys are wrong;
- a global legal war that it, but not all of its competitors, can afford.

this makes apple look like giant douchebags, and they are rightly being criticized for it.

Exactly... The only thing you left our is the hppocracy of Apple. They copy other companies and always have. For them to cry foul is just ridiculous. They copied the whole putting a mobile OS and apps on a phone idea from Palm and RIM.

On IOS - Things Apple copied from other companies.

- Notifications
- Over the air updates
- Widgets
- Free turn by turn navigation
- Social network integration
- Multitasking
- Drop Down Notifications
- Opening apps from the lock screen
- Custom Wallpapers
- Panoramic photos

They do innovate from time to time, but FFS, they copy more than they invent by far.

i clearly stated that they patent things they did not invent.
and after having switched from an iphone to android 4.0, i can tell you that iOS is years behind android despite all the copying.

They're supposedly getting widgets of some sort in 2013... what 5 years after Android did? Sadly some brainwashed Apple fan will say it was their idea.

Yup, and when Apple copies this it will simply be implementing a key feature "at the right time". The crowd will ooh and aah. Wow, widgets. Apple is so awesome. LOL
