AT&T especially excelled in smartphone sales during the third quarter at 6.1 million sales (up 1.3 million from one year ago)

AT&T announced strong third quarter financial earnings with record Android and Windows Phone activations.

The carrier reported earnings of $3.6 billion USD (63 cents per share) in Q3 2012, which beat Wall Street expectations of 60 cents per share. Revenue closely matched that from a year ago at $31.5 billion.

AT&T especially excelled in smartphone sales during the third quarter at 6.1 million sales (up 1.3 million from one year ago). It activated 4.7 million iPhones, where 18 percent represented new customers. About 1.3 million of those were the iPhone 5. AT&T also mentioned that Q3 was its best sales quarter for Android and Windows smartphones, but didn't provide any numbers.

Q3 2012 wireless revenue was at $16.6 billion, which is a 6.6 percent increase from one year ago.

Subscriber growth increased from 100.7 million in Q3 2011 to 105.9 million in Q3 2012. Postpaid subscriber growth also inched up from 68.6 million in Q3 2011 to 69.7 million in Q3 2012.

"We had another impressive quarter with strong earnings growth, record cash flows and solid returns to shareholders through dividends and share buybacks," said Randall Stephenson, AT&T chairman and CEO. "In wireless, we had another excellent smartphone quarter, penetration of usage-based mobile data plans continues to climb, and our 4G LTE network build is ahead of schedule. And in wireline, our IP network continues to deliver strong gains in U-verse high speed Internet connections, which helped drive an almost 10 percent increase in broadband data ARPU.

"Our strong performance allows us to increase our free cash flow guidance to $18 billion or higher this year, exceeding our previous outlook by $2 billion."

AT&T said it looks forward to Q4 2012, which will feature many Windows 8-based smartphones and tablets. AT&T will exclusively sell the flagship Windows Phone 8, which is the Nokia Lumia 920. It will also be the only carrier to sell the Lumia 820 as well as Windows 8 tablets from ASUS and Samsung.

and you guys pay .40 cents a kw/hr for electricity where it's 10c in america. and you pay like twice what we do for everything else lol.

besides, i dont believe you. euros always throw out thes crazy numbers without any proof. link to that $16 plan please?

also, apples to oranges. for a single person of course it's much less. i pay $62 a month, and could pay $45 if i wanted. and it depends how much data you get, etc.

plus in america we have had lte for ages, and Europe is just now getting that. you guys are way behind.
