Gates already has a Surface RT with a black keyboard cover and loves it

Just days ahead of the release of Windows 8 and the Surface tablet, Microsoft co-founder and chairman Bill Gates offered his opinion on the company's latest products -- and he seems to be rather fond of them (naturally).

In a video interview with Microsoft's Steve Clayton of Next blog, Gates talked about how incredible Windows 8 is, and even said "Windows 8 is key to where personal computing is going."

Gates added that Windows 8 has brought the operating system into "the world of touch, low-power devices - really giving people the best of what you think of as a tablet-type experience and the PC experience.

Gates sees Windows 8 as a perfect balance between a mobile and PC experience because it incorporates touch, making certain tasks faster and easier, but also keeps some traditional aspects of the computing experience - such as using a keyboard or mouse.

"You want to incorporate touch without giving up a kind of keyboard/mouse capability that is just so natural in most settings," said Gates.

Of course, Gates also gave his opinion of Microsoft's Surface tablet, saying that it's an "unbelievably great product." In fact, he already has a Surface RT with a black keyboard cover.

"You can't appreciate it without seeing it," said Gates. "People, get to a store and play around with this thing. The way you put that keyboard on and off, the richness of the swiping that takes the touch interface to a new level, just the beauty of the device - it is absolutely incredible."

Windows 8 and Microsoft Surface will be released this Friday. The Surface already went on sale for pre-order and sold out of its 32GB units

"People will be pretty amazed about the energy Microsoft's putting behind this new wave of products," said Gates. "We really saved up in terms of knowing this was such an important set of innovations that whether it's great new applications, ISV engagement or just plain marketing, this is the big time for us."

If you value someone's opinion, it's usually best to find out their motivation. Do they have significant financial interest in the success of the product? If Yes, then their opinion is meaningless, it's nothing more than an advertisement. Bill Gates praising a Microsoft product? Um. Gee. No surprise there.

Is there a single person who visits this site that thinks Bill Gates is unbiased? Seriously.

God forbid someone promotes a product they have a stake in, right? MAybe marketting should cease to exist and all commercials should go away since they are totally biased...

I think this goes without saying and maybe its just me but I think we've all come to accept it....

Don't get me wrong, I don't have any beefs with Bill hyping up a Microsoft product. Not in the least. I'm merely stating that the OPs post is useless. People already know he's rich. They already know he still gets money from Microsoft. He may or may not think the Surface is the bee's knees. Take his opinion for whatever you will. But turning this into a "OH HE'S RICH AND RICH == EVIL" argument helps no one.

Cause when Steve Jobs promoted a product, it totally failed to generate buzz interest and sales, right? His bias totally got in the way of Apple's success... Oh oops, I was holding the list upside down.... that's actually 1st place.

Because Bill Gates totally needs more money... That's totally the reason he claims he likes it. Yes, financial motivation...

Your logic assumes that everyone who has a lot of money never tries to make any more money.

The point wasn't that Gates is a complete lying sellout, the point was that you should take his opinions with a Grain of salt.

Considering he is giving away his fortune for charity and the well being of others ABSOLUTELY.

Bill Gates devotes his time to running what has arguably become the most powerful charitable organisation in the world.

Ask the Trojans about large charity.

What has condoms to do with it?

Trojans have been very charitable. They often pack a box of large condoms with mediums just to make their customers feel better.

I'm not sure if you're serious, or if that's a terrible joke...
