Samsung says that this isn't an entry-level phone

Samsung has been incredibly successful with its latest flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S III. The company sold 20 million units in the first 100 days the smartphone was available.

Now, however, Samsung believes that there's a market in Europe for a version of that smartphone with a smaller screen. The Galaxy S III has a massive 4.8-inch screen and Samsung believes that a version of the phone with a four-inch screen would be popular in Europe to compete directly with the iPhone 5.

The head of Samsung's mobile business unit said recently that the company would launch a smaller version of the Galaxy S III in Europe on Thursday.

The device is expected to pack in a 800x480 resolution display, 1GHz STE U8420 dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, and a 5MP shooter on the back..

Don't get your hopes up. Plenty of iSheep in Europe. But one has to wonder, why Europe? Because we drive smaller cars? Have less cash to throw around? It's confusing. I have heard people saying that the SIII was a bit too big to fit in their pockets, so a somewhat smaller phone would make sense.

It seems Apple hit a sweet spot size wise with the iPhone5. Why isn't the mini then simply the same hardware with a smaller screen and body?

I think because the europeans on average have a lower BMI than north americans, are also more in shape, and dress more fashionably. They don't need a giant phone sticking out of their pockets.
