GM opens second new IT Innovation Center
General Motors has announced that it is opening a new IT Innovation Center in Warren, Michigan. The center will hire up to 1,500 high-tech workers over the next several years to help GM bolster its IT services. The Michigan Innovation Center is the second of four planned Innovation Centers be located around the United States.
Last month, GM launched a similar center in Austin, Texas creating 500 new IT jobs in the area.
These IT Innovation Centers are critical to GM's overall business IT strategy. The automaker is looking to create and deliver its own IT services with new capabilities to help improve performance and drive down the cost of operations. To help support its plans for reducing costs, General Motors is moving to in-sourced IT business service models.
“GM is executing an IT best practice by in-sourcing IT services and making them a strategic part of assuring GM remains a fast-moving leader,” said Rob Enderle, principal analyst at the Enderle Group in San Jose, Calif. “This is also one of the best opportunities for IT professionals to work in the automotive industry.”

General Motors is hiring at its new centers and is looking for workers in software development, project management, database management, and business analysis. GM is recruiting experienced professionals and recent college graduates to fill its critical IT roles.
