Jobs passed away one year ago today from complications with pancreatic cancer

Today marks one year since Apple's former CEO Steve Jobs died, and the tech company is paying tribute to its late leader on the Apple homepage.

When visiting the Apple website today, a video automatically appears instead of the usual product tabs for shopping. The video, which is nearly two minutes long, is a montage of Jobs from his early days at Apple to his later years.

The video highlights some of Apple's largest moments with Jobs, such as the unveiling of major products like the iMac, the iPod and the iPhone. Along with soft cello playing in the background are quotes from Jobs over the years.

At the end of the video, a message from current Apple CEO Tim Cook appears:

Steve’s passing one year ago today was a sad and difficult time for all of us. I hope that today everyone will reflect on his extraordinary life and the many ways he made the world a better place.
 
One of the greatest gifts Steve gave to the world is Apple. No company has ever inspired such creativity or set such high standards for itself. Our values originated from Steve and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple. We share the great privilege and responsibility of carrying his legacy into the future.
 
I’m incredibly proud of the work we are doing, delivering products that our customers love and dreaming up new ones that will delight them down the road. It’s a wonderful tribute to Steve’s memory and everything he stood for.

Jobs died from complications with pancreatic cancer one year ago today at the age of 56. Just previous to that, in August 2011, Jobs had stepped down from his position as Apple CEO. Cook stepped in as his successor.

For a guy who has help revolutionized a fair chunk of technology gadgets radically in the past decade, regardless of his tactics, that post is a very poor reflection of yourself. He took a company from the brink of death to being the most valuable company in a decade is also great feat in itself.

Ponder upon yourself - what the f**k have you done lately to have the right to look down on him that harshly?

Revolutionized? It's 2012 and Apple still doesn't have a single device with NFC built-in. Likewise, remember the 4S? Everyone predicted it would come with LTE, after all Android phones are already using them. Nope, the only thing the 4S had over the first revision is slightly beefier specs.

In paper wealth. The only thing Apple has over everyone else in this regard is a near-total lack of debt ratings - it has essentially zero debt.

Who gives a f%#% about NFC? Seriously. No one is clamoring to pay for everything from their smartphone.

Fact: the man led a company from near-bankruptcy to the most valuable country on Earth.

Maybe he was an a$$hole in real-life. It doesn't mean he was not a gifted and talented innovator.

I'm not dying for NFC but I am disappointed that my ip5 doesn't have it... I may not use it for payments, yet, but I just bought the Asus ac66u .11ac router and chose it over the Cisco linksys ea6500 which has NFC support for pairing devices... I would have gone with Cisco if my phone had NFC. Just 1 example and the tech isn't mature yet

LTE in the 4S would have chopped its battery life in half. LTE chips were not power efficient, its a big reason why Android handsets continued to get larger. Putting a larger battery in a smartphone was the only way to get get decent battery life out of LTE.

Qualcomm's 28nm LTE chips came out recently, meaning that you don't need to compromise battery life or size in order to get LTE. There are actual practical reasons why LTE hasn't been in an iPhone up until now, they didn't want to make it larger or reduce battery life.

Thats just not it... They are larger because people want larger screens. Todays phones do WAY too much (IOS, Android, Winmobile, all of them) to waste it on a tiny screen.

Now we have 28nm chips that take care of the battery drain of 4G and those newest 28nm chip based phones are the biggest of them all, GS3, RazrHD, etc... and they are getting even larger on the next round. The next high end phone is going to be the LG based Nexus with a 5 inch screen. I dont know why its hard for you to get that most people want larger screens.

yes revolutionized - the fact that until Apple brought out iPod, iphone, mac air, ... all other products in their realm to vast majority of users out there on the planet were just plain and indifferent from others aside from stickers. Apple's product introduced the concept of catering properly to the end users.

You don't need to be brainwashed to realize the quality and capability of their products overall. I have been looking forward to tablets based on Windows 8 RT and most seem stupidly boring, just another rehash of their existing product lines. The only one that stands out is the Microsoft's Surface. Asus tablet is pretty much the same as Transformer Pad 300 TF300T with W8 on it. 10 months post ipad3 and still based on parts that are over an year older?

PS: I am a total anti-Apple products because I like to fiddle with my hardware and software as I see fit, and itunes and its gang are a big no. I don't own any Apple stuff and doubt if i will ever. But that doesn't mean i don't appreciate a good product.

revolutionized is way too strong of a word. They do push things forward and with the iPhone they made the rest of the industry raise thier games and we all benefit from that. Another example is high res screens. Apple started it and everyone else had to follow in step. Because of that move on the iPhone 4, we may soon see the end of 1366x768 laptops, which cant come soon enough for me... Apple does good in the industry, but "revolutionized" is way too strong a term.

it is revolutionized given vast majority of the populous embraced technology wantingly instead of needingly starting with the flow Apple began. If it wasn't for that, i still believe we would be getting rather half-assed products that we still continue to see from most manufacturers. Just go look at the Windows 8 RT product lines from most manufacturers and their pricing.
