Jobs passed away one year ago today from complications with pancreatic cancer

Today marks one year since Apple's former CEO Steve Jobs died, and the tech company is paying tribute to its late leader on the Apple homepage.

When visiting the Apple website today, a video automatically appears instead of the usual product tabs for shopping. The video, which is nearly two minutes long, is a montage of Jobs from his early days at Apple to his later years.

The video highlights some of Apple's largest moments with Jobs, such as the unveiling of major products like the iMac, the iPod and the iPhone. Along with soft cello playing in the background are quotes from Jobs over the years.

At the end of the video, a message from current Apple CEO Tim Cook appears:

Steve’s passing one year ago today was a sad and difficult time for all of us. I hope that today everyone will reflect on his extraordinary life and the many ways he made the world a better place.
One of the greatest gifts Steve gave to the world is Apple. No company has ever inspired such creativity or set such high standards for itself. Our values originated from Steve and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple. We share the great privilege and responsibility of carrying his legacy into the future.
I’m incredibly proud of the work we are doing, delivering products that our customers love and dreaming up new ones that will delight them down the road. It’s a wonderful tribute to Steve’s memory and everything he stood for.
- Tim

Jobs died from complications with pancreatic cancer one year ago today at the age of 56. Just previous to that, in August 2011, Jobs had stepped down from his position as Apple CEO. Cook stepped in as his successor.

Just because someone impacts the world we should speak only highly of them? Hitler impacted the world? Many people including myself hated jobs while he was alive I just happen to feel the same way about him after his death. I agree with retro, just because he's dead doesn't mean he belongs on a pedestal.
I have no arguement over you or anyone else respecting him or things he's done. I just don't. And I like a world without him even though apple is still ticking by without him somehow.

Exactly... I grew up in the Silicon Valley and lived there up until several years ago. I still have friends that work at Apple. Steve was like a maniac at work. People would purposely take the stairs if they saw him heading for the elevator, and wouldn't dare look him in the eye for fear of him speaking to them, because he would regularly scream at people in the halls for absolutely no reason. He was really an aweful person.

Apple Inc. put him on a pedestal. That's the company he founded. Relax buddy he didn't win a Nobel Prize posthumously.

Opinions will always differ.
The hitler comparison was the most obvious one and referencing a lesser known name who negatively impacted the world wouldn't have changed the point I was trying to make.

I didn't say anything I didn't say a year ago today on dailytech, don't know how to link just my comment

Hitler > Steve Jobs.

"So, I think the same thing of the music industry. They can't say that they're losing money, you know what I'm saying. They just probably don't have the same surplus that they had." -- Wu-Tang Clan founder RZA
