Samsung Galaxy S III
Full quarterly results are due by the end of the month

Samsung has offered up its official financial numbers for its latest quarter and has posted record quarterly profit. Samsung posted a profit of $7.3 billion, which is nearly twice the figure from the same quarter of last year. Samsung says that strong sales of high-end TVs and its Galaxy smartphones were the key drivers for the record profits.
While Samsung Electronics is riding high this quarter, most expect the next quarter to be significantly more challenging. Samsung is believed to have spent about $2.7 billion on marketing in the quarter spanning July to September alone during the London Olympic Games and to promote the new Galaxy smartphone. The estimate on marketing expenses comes from Credit Suisse.
Other reasons Samsung may see a significant decline in profitability in the next quarter have to do with higher performance related payouts to many Samsung employees thanks to the record profits experience so far this year. Samsung also has to consider the $1 billion in damages it owes Apple for patent infringements if it's unable to overturn the ruling.
Most analysts expect earnings to continue to climb until Q2 2013 with a decline in computer sales and a weakening global economy that will reduce the demand for electronics. Analysts are also pointing out that a misstep in the smartphone market could prove disastrous for Samsung since much of its profits rely on smartphone sales.
"The biggest risk for Samsung is competitive product line-ups from its rivals such as the iPhone 5," said Byun Han-joon, an analyst at KB Investment & Securities.

Samsung's full quarterly results are due by October 26.

Last years numbers (from wiki):

Revenue US$ 247.5 billion (2011)
Net income US$ 18.3 billion (2011)
Total assets US$ 384.3 billion (2011)

Revenue US$ 108.249 billion (2011)
Net income US$ 25.922 billion (2011)
Total assets US$ 116.371 billion (2011)

Profit margins are a lot better when you're selling "magic" instead of actually making stuff and running factories, etc.

I will bring up information if I think it's relevant and adds to the discussion. If you think the info is bad or irrelevant say so! If you think those earnings numbers do not add to the discussion, say why! Those types of things would constructively advance the discussion. Complaining that people bring up Apple all the time without even giving any reasons why that's a problem... you're just whining.

It's not relevant and it doesn't add to the discussion. Samsung quarterly results have almost nothing to do with Apple and Apple was not mentioned in the article.

I don't need to say that objects that go up in the air will likely come down. Gravity is obvious. Likewise, the mentioning of Apple in an article specifically talking about quarterly reports of Samsung and in reply to a comment commending Samsung about said quarterly results is OBVIOUSLY out of place. This does not need to be mentioned for your obsession with Apple to be noted.

My comment is out of place because of OBVIOUSLY.
You would do well in a presidential debate.

Did you even read the article? Apple is mentioned as is the iPhone 5. The smartphone segment is discussed as being the largest contributor to Samsung's increased profits as well as it's largest area of risk, and who is their biggest competition in this market? Yeah, Apple, the company you say isn't relevant to the discussion.

Any time two companies are battling it out in court in the public eye worldwide the way these two have been then mentioning one with the other is always relevant.

apple is mentioned in a DT article that is about something else? SHOCKER.

Im interested to know why you think mentioning Samsungs biggest commercial rival in an article about Samsung isn't relevant.

They spend more time about something they hate than anything else it seems.

Spending that much energy on something you hate is so bizarre, these people are obsessed.

Relevant info you dislike now equals hate... I'll disagree.

Also, how much energy do you think it took me to copy and paste something from Wikipedia? That you seem to consider copying and pasting a difficult or time consuming and energy intensive task says more about you than me; I think.

Have you ever tried copying/pasting on an Apple!?

In before Tony Swash TRIES to somehow turn those numbers in favor of Apple and it's "magically superior" products... and fails miserably while swiftly fading into his -1 kingdom.

Hey that's not fair. Just because he uses his iPhone's vibration function to pleasure himself doesn't mean he's biased in any way!
