So far the discussion has been interesting from the nay-sayers to the risk takers. The fact is we do have the capability today to send hundreds, maybe thousands, of people to Mars. Yes, the initial trips would be one way while people build habitats, green houses, and terraforming equipment, but the technology is here and has been for a couple of years. The why is evident in that Mars has an abundance of resources, preservation of the human race, and the expansion of knowledge. As knowledge goes up so does the living conditions of all humanity. As far a Branson goes, he has been the driving force behind the comercial space program, and he puts his money where his mouth is, so while he may be late to the idea, he will most likley be the first to achieve it.
