Samsung hits comedy gold... again

Samsung knows a good thing when it sees it. The company struck gold with its TV commercials mocking iPhone users late last year. The commercials depicted rabid Apple fans that wait in long lines to snap up the latest iteration of the iPhone.

Over the weekend, Samsung upped the ante with a print ad that directly went after Apple's new iPhone 5.

And now, Samsung is ready for a second round of "Apple Mockery" TV advertising. If the first commercials were amusing to you, this one is sure to tickle your funny bone as well.

Here are some choice quotes:

"They're saying this phone is going to be like a precious jewel"
"All I'm saying is they should have a priority line for people that have waited 5 times"

I still haven't seen a android phone sell 2 million phones is less then a couple of hours!!! Each phones hardware and OS match a certain customer. Apple has a loyal following for a reason! For me it's ease of use..my wife has gone through 3 android phones and 1 repair since I bought my Iphone 4 so there is something to be said for quality. There are things I like about Android that you cover in you post that I wish Apple would adopt, but once again I come back to the user experience, and for me is much better on the Iphone.

"Each phones hardware and OS match a certain customer."

And that, in a nutshell is Androids advantage and exactly why it outsells the iPhone by a factor of 4 to 1. You can get what you want, qwerty kb, removable battery, large screen, HUGE screen, low end, high end and everything in between.

Oh really?

Apple uses a much smaller battery and gets better battery life in several important usage scenarios. Like web browsing.

And significantly less in talk time, standby and hotspot. That would be 3 to 1 and I call that better. Also, keep in mind that browsing is done on a larger screen with higher res.

Standby? I haven't seen the SGIII, but just about every Android phone I come in contact has crappy standby. At my company most people have iPhones, while some opted for Android phones. The Android always need to be charged more often. My co-corker finally gabe up and just got an iPhone, as there were too many times he'd pick his phone up and fund it dead. I can go several days without charging my 4S.

Android 2.xx sucked at alot of things. Enter 2012 and Android 4.1. It has not only caught up but surpassed IOS on almost every front. You need to update yourself on todays phones.

Android 4.1 STILL does not have a native Cisco IPSEC vpn client like iOS has had for 2 revs.

The encryption method and opening Android when encrypted is awkward while iOS is seamless.

Being a single hardware manufacturer provides consistent and TIMELY is updates. How many phones are shipping with Jelly bean?

You are absolutely right... The Benefit of Android is flexiblity, the negative is updates, compatiblity with some apps. Another problem is perception. 2.x sucked so bad that alot of people were turned off. Fault Google for that.

But now, today the benefits far outweigh the negatives... At least to most people.

Umm, I connect to our IPSec VPN just fine with my Android phone -- and did with a free app prior to 4.0.

Running GNex w/ 4.0, and now 4.1.

Settings > Network > VPN > Types:

PPTP
L2TP/IPSec PSK
L2TP/IPSec RSA
IPSec Xauth PSK
IPSec Xauth RSA
IPSec Hybrid RSA

Sounds like a layer 8 issue to me.

We can probably gauge by your incredible spelling ability the overall intelligence of your co-workers, and let me guess -- you're the 'geek' of the office.. I sure hope you don't do much correspondence at work.

Battery life specs are something you can't really fudge too far, as the FCC checks them in the same way the EPA checks auto mileage ratings. Other Androids aside, a simple comparison between the iP5 and the GS3 shows the Samsung handset to have far superior battery life in practically every usage scenario.

A year or two ago, before lte-enabled radio chips were brought down to a smaller silicon process (cheaper, more efficient), you would be totally right -- exactly the reason why Apple refused to put 4g in the iP 4S, as it'd be plagued by poor battery life like all the more modern flagship androids of the time. Though, that sure didn't stop Apple from putting a '4G' status icon when in a 3G HSPA+ network (they thought it'd be fine.. hey, it's 'almost' as fast).

"Though, that sure didn't stop Apple from putting a '4G' status icon when in a 3G HSPA+ network (they thought it'd be fine.. hey, it's 'almost' as fast)."

Ur an idiot, LTE is not 4g specifications either and real world specs for HSPA+ r not far from LTE NOT EVEN Considerin the (then) trade offs, and worst of all u know this but ur still out and about spewin contrived crap being a biased moron. And Besides all that, it was rely becuz of AT&T dat dat was done.

"LTE as specified in the 3GPP Release 8 and 9 document series does not satisfy the technical requirements the 3GPP consortium has adopted for its new standard generation, and which were originally set forth by the ITU-R organization in its IMT-Advanced specification. However due to marketing pressures and the significant advancements that WIMAX, HSPA+ and LTE bring to the original 3G technologies, ITU later decided that LTE together with the aforementioned technologies can be called 4G technologies "

On top of this apple even took off the 4G name from their new iPads bcuz of this and now call it "cellular". blame ur shitty American tele companies for the 3G/4g "conundrum", if u wil, not apple - and plz find sumthin better to do or get a life.

In no way is sIII's battery better than iPhone 5's.

"why it outsells the iPhone by a factor of 4 to 1"

And it's Apple laughing all the way to the bank...i.e. if Android is used, Apple and Microsft get over $75.00 per phone, and that doesn't even take into account hardware patent payments, and recent legal decisions in favor of Apple. Apple's winning where it counts, and that's in the pocket book.

You say that as if all companies dont do that. As if Apple didnt copy from Palm, and as if Apple doesnt copy from Android.

Things Apple copied from Android
- Notifications
- Over the air updates
- Widgets
- Free turn by turn navigation
- Social network integration
- Multitasking
- Drop Down Notifications
- Opening apps from the lock screen
- Custom Wallpapers
- Panoramic photos

I hate Apple, but the amount of stupid I just read is mind boggling. Notifications I can give you, and perhaps widgets and social networking integration (IDK if Apple implements something similar TBH), but the rest aren't stolen from Android.

OTA updates have been around since before iOS and Android were even ideas.

Free turn-by-turn nav? Turn-by-turn has been around since before phones got it. So you're basically saying they stole the free part, which is ridiculous no matter how you think about it.

Social networking integration couldn't have been stolen from Android since they had another phone that integrated with Facebook before it, it had a Facebook button on the phone itself.

Multitasking? They had that on comps for decades, no way that could have been stolen from Android.

Opening apps from lock-screen? I'd give it a bit more credit if it weren't for the fact it didn't originate on Android. Seems like it was on jailbroken iPhones before Android.

Custom wallpapers? Haven't had this since at least Windows 98 or anything.

Panoramic photos? Again, are you serious? Phones had this before Android and the concept wasn't unique or original in any way even when the first phone got it.

If you're going to bitch about stolen stuff at least make sure it makes sense first, my god.

Not to say Google/Android invented everything... My point is Android started outselling iPhone and iPhone started copying features that Android has implemented.

Surely you'd have to agree that list is a lot more pertinet than Apples list of copied icons, folder stacking, rounded corners etc.

I agree with you there. As far as a money making machine Apple is definteley on top. Apple makes way more money. If you are looking at hte company Apple is winning. As consumers, Android gives you more features and better phones. As a consumer Android users win.

Just because you keep posting it does not make it true. Apple does not get anything from android. They are trying to get money from the courts, but are not getting anything at the moment. MS gets anywhere from $0 to $15 per device, depending on how much the manufacturer of the device settled for.

We keep finding each other here. The iPhone 5 came out 11 months after the iPhone 4s. Its like saying Tesla releases one car model once a year and all other manufacturers release 10 different models 4 times a year. Yes Tesla would be pretty sure of themselves in that one model, enough to not try to spray the market trying to fill every demographic possible. People may even come to anticipate those 'big deal' yearly releases vs other models constantly flooding the market.

Let's assume that history will repeat and it will also have the fastest GPU as well. I'd be willing to bet money on that. It will also have the best applications, that isn't changing anytime this week. LTE is also in while reducing the size of the phone, not enlarging it like every other device.

Where would it lack then? No 5" screen, no physical keyboard, no swappable storage, no swappable battery, no fiddly tweaking of the home screen. All of the above are totally acceptable concessions for best performance and best apps, but that's just me.

It is a far cry in opinion from saying something like "enjoy that terrible starter phone" about the S3.

At least we agree that Gingerbread is a terrible terrible OS.

That and... No HD screen, no Micro USB, no plug and detect as a flash drive to copy files from any computer or other device, no NFC.

All I am saying is that its a lot of "no" for a high end phone.

remember when the people reviewing the iphone 4 were saying how "solid" it was (as in heavy for the form factor)? now the apple gods have determined lighter is now better. next time, heavier will be better as we will have deemed it so.

Yes, and 3.5 inch was the perfect screen size... until it wasnt. 4g was unnecessary, until it was.

They kept the width the same. A hacky workaround but one that works given the goal of one-handed operation.

quote:
4g was unnecessary, until it was.

Correction, 4G was impractical until this summer when Qualcomm released their 28nm LTE chips. Putting one in the 4S would have meant either making the phone huge to fit a giant battery (thus killing one-hand performance and ruining high-DPI), or it would have meant half the battery life of the iPhone 4.

There was a point to Apple waiting for Qualcomm's new LTE chips. Now its in and the iPhone 5 is the fastest phone on the market while being about half the size of an S3. Extremely impressive.

Come on dude, you're not a complete idiot, I know you're better than this. Don't make stupid posts.

By TakinYourPoints on 9/22/2012 12:19:43 AM , Rating: 2
An HD screen would have meant widening the phone. I'm fine with leaving it how it is for one-handed operating, especially since the DPI is so high. The screen is excellent, certainly better than the pentile screen in an S3.

The S2 and S3 have fewer sub-pixels than other "lower" resolution displays. Who cares about an HD screen when it looks worse?

No micro-USB, eh, whatever, I don't own any other micro-USB devices anyway. There are apps to plug in and use as a flash drive, so that's a useless argument. NFC is a negative for some people, and it might be for me once it is ubiquitous and still omitted. Otherwise, not a big deal.

Those are all fine trade-offs for the best hardware running the best apps. Its actually stretching for excuses if you ask me, but whatever.
