There are 250GB and 500GB versions that will be released throughout the fall

Sony announced that it will release another redesigned version of its PlayStation 3 console before the end of the year.

The latest PS3 console will be available in either 250GB and 500GB bundles. The 250GB bundle will come in either black or white and will have "Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception" Game of the Year Edition included. The price tag is set at $269.99.

For those more interested in the 500GB model, it will come in black only alongside the "Assassin's Creed III" release. A price for this bundle hasnt been announced yet.

So what's the redesign exactly? The upcoming PS3 will be 25 percent slimmer than the last redesign, and will be a full 50 percent slimmer than the original PS3.

The black 250GB bundle will be available on September 25 while the white version will be released November 22. The black 500GB PS3 will hit store shelves October 30.

Still no PS2 backwards compatibility. Has no value for me, and I hate the fact that to download updates you give up the rights to participate in a class-action lawsuit.

My old non-backwards compatible PS3 is likely to be the last Sony product I ever purchase.

Hate to say it, but the only PS3's that had ps2 backwards compatibility were the first 4 models that were launched early on. The Original baseline 20gig units had on board ps2 hardware. The Original 60gig ps3 had on board ps2 hardware. The Second generation 60 and 80gig PS3 that came out, didn't have on board hardware but, still had partial emulated software backwards compatibility.

Every generation after that, has lacked any ps2 backwards compatibility. That includes the 40gig, third gen 80gig, and 160gig fat model. Note these models also lacked the 4 usb ports, and memory card readers of the originals. I know this for a fact, because I owned a 40gig fat model.

Only real advantage to the newer units is they use less power. My 160gig slim uses almost half the power that my old 40gig did.

This is why I'm glad I live where I live.
No company can write a Eula that overrides my basic rights and a access to a class action lawsuit just so happens to be one of them. :)
