Most companies (sans Apple) allow consumer expansion....

By allowing consumers to use Micro-SD cards, WE get the choice of less expensive phones and expand the memory as we see fit. Many can use existing microUSB cables to charge their phones and even access their phone
Apple charges $100 each tier to expand soldered memory from 16, 32, 64. Apple requires a proprietary cable to charge and you can only add content using proprietary software ITunes.
Why pay up to 200.00 more for a phone when you can buy a 50.00 MicroSD card and keep the rest in YOUR pocket? Apple LOVES to take advantage of its followers, so it gets away with it. Over time many will begin to wake from the infatuation and breakup with Apple.
Reality Check on Android and Apple comparison...
"This week I got an iPhone. This weekend I got four chargers so I can keep it charged everywhere I go and a land line so I can actually make phone calls." -- Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg
