iPhone 5 becomes the fastest selling iPhone ever

It will come as no surprise that Apple’s iPhone 5 has proven to be insanely successful only a few days after it was officially announced. AT&T has announced that the iPhone 5 set a sales record over the weekend making it the fastest selling iPhone AT&T has ever offered.

AT&T reports that customers ordered more iPhones from AT&T than any previous model both on its first day of pre-orders and over the weekend. And although AT&T didn't divulge actual sales numbers, Apple was happy to oblige. The boys from Cupertino announced that over 2 million iPhone 5 smartphones were sold within the first 24 hours of availability -- twice the performance of last year's iPhone 4S.

“iPhone 5 pre-orders have shattered the previous record held by iPhone 4S and the customer response to iPhone 5 has been phenomenal,” said Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “iPhone 5 is the best iPhone yet, the most beautiful product we’ve ever made, and we hope customers love it as much as we do.”

The iPhone 5 is still available for pre-order on the AT&T network right now and is the only version of the device capable of simultaneous voice and data.

While Apple and its carriers are likely celebrating over the big sales numbers, Samsung is already looking to knock the iPhone 5 down a peg or two with new print advertising.

So Two Million People's (Sheep's) Contracts Expired
By Arsynic on 9/17/2012 9:58:31 AM , Rating: 3
We know that there are millions of people who by default only want to use the jitterbug of smartphones, the iPhone. They remind me of the business people still clutching their Wackberries.

These people don't care about specs. They can barely use a fucking smartphone. These are the same people who call me when their Exchange password has expired and they still don't know how to change it on their iPhones.

That's why I call it the Jitterbug of smartphones. It's the smartphone of choice for senior citizens, all around dumbasses, and people who just want a smartphone that works. Not dissing the iPhone. It's a reliable phone that just works, that's why it's so popular. Android is for people that prefer choice and like to tinker. The only problem with iPhone is that it's boring as shit.

It seems I'm not allowed to vote here anymore.
Hey, DT, FU2! I'm so pissed.. I'm all out of coffee-- oh, like you've never been here before.

Your ability to generalize millions of people is incredible! Please, sir, tell me more about how your smartphone OS choice makes you more superior than others who choose different. I am here to listen.

I, a simpleton dumbass, do not enjoy the Android OS after having used it for two years. My feeble mind just cannot handle all of the customization that Android offers. I confuse easily and end up desperate and despaired. I run, nay, sprint toward iOS because it is the best my inadequate brain can handle. I weep at night wishing I was as smart as the average Android user.

On the other hand, forcing your brain to work harder is suppose to make it stronger. Basically the same as going to the gym makes you physically stronger. So maybe using android would help your simpleton brain out. :)

Unless you never sit yourself in front of the TV, give me a break. By the way you don't have to customize your phone, you can pretty much run in the way it came.

we all know it was better to root them ;) when I was younger I loved to do all that stuff, these days I don't have time for it.

Meh, I rooted my phone while eating dinner. Most of the time spent was getting Odin to recognize my phone (which was because I needed to restart my comp after installing the drivers) and the actual installation of the rooted ROM, which was a couple minutes at best.

It might not be as simple for other phones but for a SGS3 it really is. Though, unless you really need root features it's not even a necessity.

I agree with you 100%, but I also think that's a legitimate market. You ever feel like banging your head against the wall trying to provide windows tech support for the non techie people you know? I'm about to give up on my parents and just have them buy google chrome laptops. Nope there is definitely a market for super simple tech devices, of course not for me though.

You clearly missed the part where the iPhone 5 beats all other phones on the market in benchmarks? http://www.anandtech.com/show/6298/analyzing-iphon... Or are you too busy spouting FUD and crazed rhetoric to notice?

Geekbench Scores, where both phones win 2 of 4 main tests, and also should be taken into judgement, the geekbench android platform has too many spurious anomalies on the Android side to be taken as a one to one benchmark of iOS/Android performance .....

iPhone 5: http://browser.primatelabs.com/geekbench2/1030202

SG3: http://browser.primatelabs.com/geekbench2/1026099

I think that FUD and crazed rhetoric is getting the better of you.

Posting links to unconfirmed reports, as Anand clearly stated is not helping matters, we should wait for the confirmed benchmarks, like they really mean anything anyway.

It really says a lot to a persons motives when they're on both sites defending their product, sit back and chill and enjoy your choice, this nonsense doesn't do anything but muddy he waters even further.

Millions of people also buy cars without knowing how to open the hood and repair the engine. They don't even know how many horsepower it has! OMFG!

or better yet

All you city slickers reading this eat meat but couldn't hunt an animal if your life depended on it! Millions buying fatty beef in stores! Worthless! I hunt elk, bear, and deer and haven't bought meat in 14 years unlike all you neutered pansies that would starve to death of McDonald's shut down tomorrow!
