AT&T iPhone 5 will support voice and data simultaneously

No matter how you feel about the iPhone 5 that was unveiled this week, it's an interesting smartphone to most people. However, we're learning that the phone can't support cellular data and voice calls at the same time on certain 4G LTE networks.

Specifically, the iPhone 5 will be unable to handle simultaneous voice and data use on Verizon Wireless and Sprint versions of the device. This is due to a limitation in the CDMA specification that those two networks use. However, some 4G LTE smartphones on the Verizon network will allow users to make voice calls and use data connectivity at the same time. The iPhone 5 is unable to do this due to design decisions that Apple made.

“The iPhone 5 is designed to allow customers to make voice calls on the Verizon Wireless network and surf the Web on Wi-Fi,” Verizon spokeswoman Brenda Raney said in an e-mail. “It was an Apple decision."

The New York Times reports that when users place a voice call while connected to 4G LTE network the phone call the defaults to the carriers older second or third-generation networks because LTE networks can't support voice calls at this time.

The reason AT&T iPhone 5 buyers can place phone calls and use data at the same time is because both of those functions roll back to the older AT&T 3G network, which is capable handling both simultaneously.

I go along with Horace at Aysymco and think his projection of around 6 million iPhones sold for the launch weekend is sound.

Funny how you 'magically' know the HIGHEST analyst projection for iPhone 5 sales. You must indeed work for Apple PR.

But doing some math... iPhone 5 pre-orders sold out in one hour. iPhone 4s pre-orders sold out in 20 hours and actual sales from those pre-orders was 4 million. So doing the math... 4 million divided by 20 hours = 200,000 units. So I will guess that they had 250,000 units for sale on the high end. I can actually believe that this quantity will sell out in an hour.

There's a ton of rumors that Apple has short supply - rightfully so considering the new silicon dual core cortex A15's inside. The inclusion of the A15's actually surprised many of the 'Apple' folks across the interwebs. There's just no way that Apple can have millions of these devices powered by such a new chip. No Way.

Now that you are clearly the only one talking out of you ass, you can post whatever Apple tells you to in response to my post.

Meanwhile in the real world AllThings D offers a first week sales estimate for the iPhone 5 of 10 million.

When you are in a hole stop digging. There is abundant evidence of higher demand for this iPhone than previous iPhones and zero evidence that Apple artificially restrains supply in order to create 'sold out' hype that it doesn't need. However much you try to dance around it the iPhone 5 will be the most successful phone launch, and maybe the most successful product launch ever. The only thing that will beat the iPhone 5 in terms of numbers or speed of units sold will be the iPhone 6 next year.

I repeat only a preening puffed up fool thinks that the only people who disagree with him are those paid to do so. I disagree with you because you are wrong: I hope that doesn't crush your ego too much.

Not everyone bases their "facts" on estimates like you. Hell anyone can estimate everything about anything. I estimate that 99.9% of crApple users are complete retards. Although that is a VERY conservative estimation but more than likely 100% fact. See how easy it is to estimate ?

FAIL. I clearly stated

and not apple lover's website prediction.

Must have hit a nerve there for you. Care to prove your point? No? Didn't think so. I clearly gave my evidence as to why I believe Apple manipulates the amount of devices to create hype for their newest product. Something you can't do... as your opinions lack any form of logic.

Looks like you need to jump back in your hole then.

Couldn't have said that any better.
