Camera can record nearly 30 minute long movies in full HD
This week has been big for new announcements in the digital camera world. Sony went official this week with
three new digital cameras
, including the RX1 and a99 high-end offerings. Nikon has now unveiled a new FX-format camera called the D600. The new D-SLR promises to be the smallest and lightest FX-format camera offering excellent performance.
The camera has a 24.3-megapixel sensor and uses the same EXPEED 3 image processing engine that the high-end Nikon D4, D800, and D800E D-SLRs use. The camera measures 141 x 113 x 82 (WxHxD) mm and weighs 760 g. The camera features an optical viewfinder with 100% frame coverage and a 3.2-inch LCD on the back with wide viewing angles.
The camera also offers the dust and water resistance featured in the D800 line and supports the full DX NIKKOR lens line. In addition to shooting 24.3-megapixel still images, the camera can also record full HD movies at 1080p/30p. Movies can be recorded in two different formats, including FX and DX. The camera uses H.264/MPEG-4 AVC video compression allowing it to record a single movie of up to 29 minutes and 59 seconds.
The camera also supports the Nikon Wireless Mobile Adapter for transferring high-quality photos directly to a smart device for sharing using a wireless network connection. The camera can shoot continuous bursts at 5.5 fps and has an integrated flash.
The D600 is priced at $2100 body-only and at $2700 with an AF-S NIKKOR 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5G ED VR lens.

The tings is, there are about +25 years of good FX lenses out in the wild, all my friends i know from when i was a photo fanatic, had the same problem, many opted for a FF body like second hand D2X or (new) D700 so they could keep on using the lenses, even do most of them would have bin happy with a $+1000 body.
Now you have the option for the little cheaper D600, but the price difference is so little, i think i would still go for the D800.
But also think that Nikon is never gone make a cheap FF camera, :~(
