Gauntlet Node supports streaming to five devices simultaneously

Patriot Memory has announced the launch of a new portable storage enclosure called the Gauntlet Node. The enclosure is a portable wireless device that has an internal lithium-polymer battery. The enclosure supports any 2.5-inch, 9.5 mm thick hard drive or SSD.
 
Once the SSD hard drive is installed into the portable wireless enclosure, the Gauntlet Node allows the drive to be accessed wirelessly from tablets, smartphones, and laptops. Patriot says that the Gauntlet Node can connect to up eight devices and can wirelessly share and stream movies, music, and documents to five different devices at the same time.
 
An app is available for Android and iOS devices allowing the devices to access content stored on the drive.
 
The enclosure measures 3.39-inches by 5.47-inches by .96-inches and weighs 182.5 g. It supports 802.11 b/g/n and uses SATA II internal connectivity for the drive. It supports hard drives with a maximum capacity of 2 TB, and the internal battery promises 5.5 hours of continuous streaming per charge.
 
The enclosure is available online right now for $100.

How about for watching movies or listening to music while on an airplane on a tablet device? Seems perfectly suited for that.

Or simply use a non-Crapple tablet that can expand its storage via SD or microSD cards.

The only thing new about this product is the ability to use any off-the-shelf 2.5" 9.5mm-thick hard drive or SSD, the latter of which is limited to SATA2.
