1.3 million new Android devices are activated daily

Google is certainly not going to be at the forefront of the technology world today with Apple expected to unveil its next-generation iPhone this afternoon. However, that didn't stop Google from taking advantage of an early-morning opportunity to brag about the success of its Android operating system.
Google has announced that it has 500 million Android devices activated around the world. Google also notes that over 1.3 million new Android devices are added to that total every single day.
The announcement comes from Google's Android director of product management, Hugo Barra. He said, "Today is a big day for Android... 500 million devices activated globally, and over 1.3 million added every single day."
So far, few Android devices are actually running the latest flavor of the operating system known as Jelly Bean or version 4.1. Right now, Google says that 20.9% of all Android usage is Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Jelly Bean has a scant 1.2% of the Android market according to Google.

Barra also mentioned that the Jelly Bean statue was back on the Google lawn along with the other statues denoting various flavors of Android that have launched. That Jelly Bean statue had previously melted in the sun and had to be removed for repairs.

But, but, one is making money off of Android. Android doesn't innovate, only steals from everyone else. Google is the devil for giving away a free OS.

My only hope is that wireless carriers knock off the ridiculous data pricing nonsense that is almost making my smartphone pointless to use!

Fortunately T-Mobile brought back unlimited data. It's nice to have the OPTION, unlike Verizon and AT&T.

As a long time, post paid T-Mo customer I welcome the news when it broke. We'll see if I get throttled like before. My limit prior to the announcement was slightly over 5GB before my speed went down.

I would guess that they still need to throttle at some point. 5GB is a lot, really, for a phone. Do you watch youtube movies all day?

Sprint has had unlimited data for like 10 years. I don't see the argument about carrier data rape.

Just don't get Verizon or AT&T...

I think they are still throttling after so many gbs, while they say it's unlimited, I don't think it's truly unlimited. I could be wrong though.

Actually, there are other options.

I use my Droid through the Page-Plus (Verizon network)and pay 29.97 per month. 1200 Talk, 3000 TXT, and 100mb is more than enough for my needs. Just needed to change settings to download updates and email attachments when connected to WiFi. I use the data mostly for Navigation use.

Head on over to the to read the 5 reasons for NOT buying an IPhone5. A realist view is always refreshing.

Best wishes,

I have Verizon right now and am grandfathered into the Unlimited 29.95 plan. But after about 3GB of data, it gets throttled to the point that its basically useless for streaming audio/video or sending large email files.
