Fujifilm launches its second interchangeable lens camera this year

Fujifilm has launched a new interchangeable lens digital camera called the X-E1. This is the second interchangeable camera to launch from Fujifilm this year following the X-Pro1. The new E1 uses the same 16-megapixel APS-C X-Trans CMOS sensor as the Pro1 and the two cameras also share the same X mount lenses.

The rear LCD on the camera measures 2.8-inches. The overall resolution is 16.3-megapixels and the camera has a hot shoe attachment for an external flash. The ISO range is 200-6400 and can be extended up to 25,600.

The X-E1 uses an OLED electronic viewfinder with a resolution of 2.36 million dots. Fujifilm says that this is one of the highest resolution electronic viewfinders available on a digital camera.

The camera has a number of shooting modes, and offers advanced digital processing to superimpose two exposures to create a single higher-quality image. Full HD movies can be recorded at 24 FPS. The camera offers movie recording modes, including Monochrome or Film Simulation.

The new X-E1 will hit the market this fall with silver or black versions available. Pricing for the new camera is unannounced at this time.

Fujifilm is also announcing a new Fujinon XF 18-55mm F2.8-4 R LM OIS lens designed for exceptionally fast autofocus speed and precision. Fujifilm says that the new lens can bring the subject into focus as quickly as 0.1 seconds.

Fujifilm is making a name for itself.

After rocking my Fuji X10 through the Philippines in a 2 week adventure, I have to say this is the best semi-compact camera I've ever owned. The quality of the shots are absolutely amazing. The features also appear to meet almost every scenario I required from the jungles to the bright lit islands. Indoor, and cities, not a problem.

As a former Canon lover, I'm glad I made the switch.

Bear in mind that the X mount is only used by Fuji. A wise photographer once said that when you buy a Nikon or Canon camera, you're not buying a body, you're buying a lens selection.

Provided it has all the range you need you should be ok.

Nikon lenses are incompatible with Canon SLRs and vice versa. Every camera maker has a proprietary lens mount so if it serves you well it's a moot point.

I am a happy owner of a Nikon D7000 with several lenses but sometimes I look at some cameras by Canon and say "hey, I wouldn't care to have that one"... But being lenses as costly as they are I definitely feel I'm married to Nikon. And as in every marriage, divorcing is quite expensive and being married to 2 women is even more so. Having 2 systems is totally unjustifiable for me so I wouldn't even think of it :)
