Samsung score a victory over Apple

Samsung has had a pretty rough couple of week following its loss to Apple in a California district court. Samsung was found guilty of infringing on various Apple design patents and was ordered to pay $1.05 billion in damages. To add insult to injury, Apple is looking to add the flagship Galaxy S III to the banned list in the U.S.
 
Even with all of that bad news swirling around Samsung, the South Korean company can at least take solace in the fact that its Galaxy S III has knocked the Apple iPhone 4S off its perch as the best-selling smartphone in America.

"We believe this is the first month since the iPhone 4S launched in October 2011 that it was not the top-selling smartphone in the U.S. market," said Canaccord Genuity analyst T. Michael Walkley.
 
However, Samsung's victory over Apple may be short-lived. Apple has officially confirmed a September 12 press event to announce the next generation iPhone. Sales will likely start towards the end of September.

As much as many hate to admit it, Steve Jobs really was a bright mind. It just wasn't so much over technology as it was about supply and demand and how to keep the dynamic favorable for Apple.

I don't think Tim Cook is too saavy in this regard and I feel as though we have seen Apple at its prime as it pertains to the consumer's perspective.

Apple was thought of as a premium device, or so the pitch went. That simply isn't true today to anyone who has a partial tech clue. I don't even know what Apple could do to re-ignite that. It largely only got that image as a result of being the first to make substantial inroads in the mobile market.

Now there are enough also-rans that frankly Apple just doesn't stand out like it used to.

It's relying on iPad hype IMO to continue that futuristic 'here first' image but thats about to be largely overshadowed by Surface and the rest of the W8 portfolio.

The big test IMO for Apple will be how entrenched in public school system the iPad will be. If it fails to find new markets to create, it will lose consumer interest as Apple has effectively saturated the various markets it has invaded and I think consumer's are somwwhat fatigued with very evolutionaly generations of the iPhone.

That is such an epic fail. Steve Jobs was at the cutting edge of the industry for forty years while Tim Cooke is considered one of, if not the best, supply chain manager on the planet.

The iPhone sales dip before it's refresh every year and every year it's whipped up into the beginning of the end for Apple.
