Samsung score a victory over Apple

Samsung has had a pretty rough couple of week following its loss to Apple in a California district court. Samsung was found guilty of infringing on various Apple design patents and was ordered to pay $1.05 billion in damages. To add insult to injury, Apple is looking to add the flagship Galaxy S III to the banned list in the U.S.
Even with all of that bad news swirling around Samsung, the South Korean company can at least take solace in the fact that its Galaxy S III has knocked the Apple iPhone 4S off its perch as the best-selling smartphone in America.

Samsung Galaxy S III
"We believe this is the first month since the iPhone 4S launched in October 2011 that it was not the top-selling smartphone in the U.S. market," said Canaccord Genuity analyst T. Michael Walkley.
However, Samsung's victory over Apple may be short-lived. Apple has officially confirmed a September 12 press event to announce the next generation iPhone. Sales will likely start towards the end of September.

Most over rated phone for android fanboys ever. I don't own an iPhone, but the S3 is just another android phone, in their all too necessary specs war. I also don't understand their needless and desperate comparison to an 11 month old phone. Let it be it's own phone, you don't need to compare it to something it's not competing with.

Well once you have a great OS, a great app market, what else is there besides bigger screens, better battery life, higher resolution, etc?

Meh, it's a nice phone. My wife and I both were going to get one but figured we'd see what the WP8 and iphone 5's are like. Considering it's a 2 year contract... whats waiting a couple months and having 3 potentially great devices to pick from.

Truthfully, I have a love hate relationship with my current android phone, and a similiar problem with my ipad 2. And I've used windows 8 a bit (MSDN) and have a bit of a love/hate relationship with that as well. They all need improvement.

Unless WP8 is great, I'll probably go android again. I use gmail (custom domain), and that integration, google navigation, and wifi hotspot, are my main uses for the phone. IOS has more games, but I guess I just can't be bothered to play games on a phone. Angry birds is enough for the couple times I've wanted to play something on it.

I went ipad 2 vs galaxy tab because the ipad 2 was much smoother and had way better app selection. No regrets, other than that ios is very limited on a larger screen. Airplay is pretty slick. I knew the ipad would be useless for productivity going into it, so that doesn't bother me much.

I think windows 8 would be great on a tablet. Hopefully apps will come quickly.

Just because someone decides to write an article about phone sales doesn't mean that "they" are desperate to compare their phones favorably to an 11 month old phone.
The people you are criticizing-- supposedly android fanboys-- are a much smaller group than you may realize.
I own 2 android tablets and I don't consider myself a fanboy just because I found these devices cost/feature favorable to other tablet options. I'm just an hp Touchpad and Google Nexus 7 customer. ;)
