Both devices are expected to be announced on Sept. 5

Samsung may have struck the first blow in the Windows Phone 8 battle, but Nokia isn't about to roll over and play dead despite its meager results with Windows Phone 7.x. EVLeaks has posted two images which apparently depict the upcoming Lumia 820 and the Lumia 920 with PureView.

Not much is know about either device other than the fact that the mid-range Lumia 820 features a 4.3" screen, while the flagship Lumia 920 features 4.5" screen. As you can tell from the following images, both will likely be available in a number of colors to suit your design aesthetic.

I tried out the Lumia 900 and didn't like it.

Found the interface jarring and very space inefficient. Granted, it's an interface that takes getting used to, so it might grow on a person with time (then again, I really hate Metro in W8 as well).

What I really didn't like, though, were the areas that WP7 was deficient to Symbian and Android phones (I have a N8, my wife has a SGS2):
* No file manager
* Lousy multitasking
* No bluetooth file transfer (yes, MS touts Skydrive, but that's useless to me when I go overseas or am in a bad reception area)
* No MTP/USB mode
* Buggy offline maps support
* No SD card hotmount/expandability
* Locked-in choice of app store (there are 10 or so different places to buy android apps from, including android market, amazon, opera, handango, YAAM, etc. I can also buy/download apps direct from the developer for Symbian. No such luck with windows phone, it's microsoft or the highway)

WP8 will hopefully address most (but not all) of these issues. If nokia makes a good enough camera in their pureview phone, it might tempt me to the dark side, but I'm aware I'll be giving up a lot of freedom for it.
