Very true! They used to stand for quality, and thus the price premiums were justified; my $200 HP scientific calcalutor from the 90s still going strong.

Now the price premiums are still there, but not the quality. We used to have lots of problems with their laser printers every single day at work until they were all replaced with Japanese and Lexmark brands.

Nowadays, for PDA I go with Sharp; desktop PC DIY; notebook Acer; laser printer Konica-Minolta; digital camera Canon; photo printer Canon.

The only HP product I use and swear by is their laser priters. I've owned lots of HP, Epson & Canon inkjets over the years and I must say Canon beats HP hands down these days. For your info stay away from Epson...don't even touch it or look at it.

Epson inkjets has good photo printouts...for as long as the warranty is valid, plus a year or so.

HP's past printers are really solid. I have 850C and 810Cs still working.

There will be some new inks yes. They will be by far the best inks available for consumer home printing though.
