ATIV S could be unveiled at IFA 2012

Samsung may still be in shock over its $1.05B loss to Apple in a U.S. court, but that isn't stopping the company with moving forward with fresh new products. Microsoft's Windows Phone mobile operating system has been treading water in the smartphone space for well over a year, but Samsung is hoping to liven things up with a sleek, fresh entry to the fray.

The Samsung ATIV S features an 8.7mm brushed aluminum chassis and will come packing a 4.8" HD Super AMOLED screen, 1.5GHz dual-core processor, and an 8MP rear camera. For those that actually bother using the front-facing camera, that unit dials in at 1.9MP.

There will be both 16GB and 32GB models made available to the public, and a microSD slot will also be included if you choose to expand storage on your own. A generous 2300mAh battery is included to ensure that you have enough juice to last through the day.

You can check out more pictures and thoughts on the Samsung ATIV S on the Windows Phone Blog.

The launch date for Windows Phone 8 will likely be announced next week.

This could be something I would actually consider. I'm currently pretty disappointed with my HTC Sensation, and fell in love with WP7 when I used it.

The only thing holding me back from WP at the moment are the lack of diversity in the hardware, and app selection. The interface, however, is spot on.

Go to the Google Play store. Do a search on "Launcher 7" - its free. Install it... enjoy.

Does things that WP7/8 doesn't do. Rotate the title orientation, custom colored tiles to specific ones - if you want. So for example, all my tiles are rich blue, but my Phone tile is green.

Been using this for 1.5 years on my Galaxy1.

With ICS on the Atrix HD, I think I'll be using the default UI as its better than 2.x and seems to do what I want.

Used Launcher 7 for a month. Was too buggy and immediately felt disconnected from the rest of the phone when doing anything other than interacting directly with the 'launcher 7' screen, IMO. Also, I think the tiles in Win 8 / WP8 do rotate but I could be wrong.

They do not rotate in WP7 on the home screen. Portrait only, like a stock iPhone as well.

Oh, I'm definitely gonna be considering this if I go Windows Phone 8 for my next phone. Sorry, Nokia, but I want a removable battery.

That looks like a pretty nice phone. When my HTC trophy dies or my contract is up, I may try one.
