New GPU -- 4 to 7 times as fast is also coming
With NVIDIA Corp.'s (
and Qualcomm, Inc.'s (
packing four lightweight cores, Intel Corp. (
) is looking to step up with a mobile quad-core of its own, likely to counter the next generation Tegra 4/Snapdragon 5.

Intel is also working with UK based Imagination Technologies Group plc. (

The SoC will boast a built in image decoder (courtesy of Imagination Tech.), a camera interface, and support for DDR3L-1066 or 1333 memory. Also included will be a VGA/HDMI display controller, SATA 2, and USB 2.0/3.0 support.
In short, Qualcomm, NVIDIA,
better be on top of their game come 2013, because in the H2 2013, Intel is set to unleash one lean mean quad-core mobile chip upon the smartphone and tablet market.

Power efficiency is expected to blow the roof off

Intel's 3D FinFET transistor technology
, a 22 nm development that proved a
key driver of
. Price remains a concern for Intel, but on the power and performance front, the company appears positioned for a landmark year in the mobile space in 2013.

Intel's 3D FinFET transistor technology is a huge advance and gives them a 3-4 year lead in desktop alone. It should allow them to be competitive in mobile; not sure if it is enough of an advance for them to become widely used / dominant.
The technology allows Intel to make chips that have 90% less power draw at idle, and either (a) have 37% better performance or (b) use 50% less power. If you take the latest mobile chip from Intel and give it 90% less draw at idle and 50% less power used under max load... it's a HUGE improvement.

Doesn't matter, I don't see Intel making inroads in the mobile phone space anytime soon. They do have an opening in the Windows 8 tablets to be able to compete against other competitors that are only able to run Windows RT. Especially if they can build a Windows 8 tablet that has better performance than the Windows RT tables and comes in at about the same price. Probably time for Intel to copy Microsoft and produce their own Tablet.

You're forgetting that power-efficiency (and low heat) are two huge concerns of Apple, as well as other manufactures. It is one of the reasons, if not
reason they underclock their chips.
Although Apple is making chips in house right now, don't put it past them, or others, to jump back on the Intel bandwagon if Intel chips are truly supreme. Remember, Apple has good business relations with Intel ever since it dropped AMD for their desktop/notebook line.
