Nokia, Microsoft Look to Profit from Samsung's Misfortune

The recent win for Apple means reduced competition from Samsung and Google, making room for Nokia and Microsoft in smartphone sales
Apple isn't the only winner in its
recent victory against Samsung
-- partners Nokia and Microsoft could benefit as well with the eliminated competition.
Last week, Samsung took a hard hit from a U.S. jury, which determined that the electronics giant stole important features from the iPhone and iPad for its own line of devices. Samsung was ordered to pay Apple $1.05 billion in damages and is facing upcoming product bans.
This is not only bad news for Samsung, but Google as well since its Android operating system is mainly ran on Samsung's mobile hardware. Android is currently the leader of the OS', reaching 65 percent of the smartphone market. But with Samsung product bans likely on the way, Google could really feel the effect of the jury's decision.
It's obvious that Apple truly benefits here, but Nokia and
Microsoft can also pop open a bottle of champagne
and celebrate this ruling. Samsung's loss means reduced competition in the smartphone realm, where hardware maker Nokia and Windows software creator Microsoft can offer up their collaborative efforts for increased market share in the U.S.
Nokia already saw a boost with a 10.2 percent jump in shares this morning. Microsoft experienced a smaller increase of 1.6 percent.
Nokia is the largest maker of Windows Phones, and will feature Windows Phone 8 devices as early as next week.

Windows Phone 8 should be an iPhone killer.

In the same way the Zune killed the iPod. Once Microsoft get going there is not stopping them :)

I don't think this has anything to do with iStuff.
The opening is in Android's market share, not Apple's. If I were a M$ marketer, I'd cast the Windows phone as one of two innovative phone OSs (and then, of course, proceed to discuss why they think their UI is better).
I'm agnostic about all these OSs; I don't work for any of them or own stock in them, so their triumph or failure doesn't help or hinder me.
As a consumer, I *do* want more competitors in play to keep innovation up and prices down.

Yeah but throwing your competition a bone is bad marketing bro. With Apples victory **for now, this has reduced competition and choice in ht emarket. Samsung will appeal and all that fun will start again
