"Driving, murdering, stealing, oh my!"

Rockstar Games' highly anticipated sequel to the smash hit Grand Theft Auto: IV is shaping up nicely, although we still don’t have a definite release date for the game. But in the mean time, Rockstar is whetting the appetites of eager fans with three fresh in-game screenshots of Grand Theft Auto: V:

I think that GTA (just MHO) has begun to take itself a bit too seriously, but maybe people like that.

I used to like the earlier games more "fun" take on crime and violence, with the frenzies, bonuses for running over an entire line of Hara Krishnas and the radio stations. It was the small things that made the older games more interesting. They seemed to have more charm which has been lost as the games have got bigger and more ambitious.

The problem that GTA has is the same that all these types of game have and that's that there are really only a handfull of missions, which can become quite boring if the designers are not careful. That, and there are a lot of other games that have taken on the ideas pioneered in GTA and run with them, using more imagination than the more realistic, GTA world can allow, making it feel rather dull.

Since Vice City, I've played GTA games less and less. The idea has become stale for me, but then I also say the same thing about a lot of games that are on their 4th or 5th iteration.

Fingers crossed that they prove me wrong though, as I think that this will be more of the same, just better graphically with more detail. I also fear that DLC trend will continue and it'll continue to be abused and I'll really be being charged full price for half a game, but that's probably all that I'll play anyway, and I will probably buy it too :)
