Apple tried to implement a new hiring formula for its retail stores over the past few months and said that it "messed up" in doing so

Apple said it "messed up" in its recent round of hiring, but denies claims that the company laid off any new retail employees.

Earlier this week, Mac Rumors reported that Apple had laid off several new hires around the world (mainly the United Kingdom) and cut the hours of part-timers significantly in the retail sector. Some of the new employees had just finished their training programs and had been with the company as little as six months.

Apple recently responded to these claims, saying that the company hasn't laid off anyone. It did, however, implement a new hiring formula for its retail stores over the past few months and said that it "messed up" in doing so. The company is now trying to reverse this formula, which has resulted in large cuts in retail hours.

"Making these changes was a mistake and the changes are being reversed," said Kristin Huguet, Apple spokeswoman. "Our employees are our most important asset and the ones who provide the world-class service our customers deserve."

John Browett, senior vice president of Apple Retail, was indeed behind the idea (as previously suspected). Browett is the new guy on the team, having come from UK-based Dixons Retail electronics stores in April 2012.

Browett was praised for conducting an internal review when first joining Apple, which led to raises as high as 25 percent for retail employees as well as certain hardware discounts.

He tried to put a new staffing formula in place, but obviously that didn't work out too well. Browett is now telling leadership teams to tell employees that "we messed up."

Mac Rumors still insists that the company laid off employees, since it has heard from actual retail workers themselves. But this looks to be a foggy area in the whole fiasco.

ifoAppleStore.com has detailed account of the waves Browett has been making in Apple's Retail stores since his arrival. It appears that Browett has been trying a bit too hard to change many aspects of Apple's Retail Stores that have made them so successful in an effort to save a few bucks here and there.

I agree, this employment thing is a non-issue. Just a natural correction.

"And every year they sell more phones than any other vendor "

While still being outsold by Android 4 to 1 (up from 2.5 to 1 last year)
http://beta.fool.com/evanbuck/2012/08/13/smartphon...

"The shipment of Android-based smartphones experienced a 106.5% gain while shipment of iPhones climbed by 27.5% this year. A total of 104.8 million Android-based smartphones were shipped worldwide in the second quarter, compared with 26 million iPhones. That’s four Android phones for every iPhone, up from a ratio of 2.5 to 1 in the same period last year."

hee hee hee. I know that bugs you.

" we all know what Steve would have done if this sort of shit had happened on his watch."
Yes, he would have gone an yelled at someone at the top of his lungs like they were some sort of child, becasue Jobs was a giant arsehole. I know people that worked at Apple HQ. No-one would want to meet his gaze. People would take the stairs if they saw him getting in the elevator becasue he was simply an angry maniac.

Yeah that's right, low profitable cheapo phones outsold high profitable ones and Apple STILL grabbed almost all profit on the market LOL :))) Apple is doooomed (C) Tony

Only those kind of angry smart managers can make a huge organization to move quickly, grow quickly and stay most profitable for a long time. He's way way better than sleepy Ballmer or any "polite" jerk from HP or Dell management or whatever. With him gone now Apple may get overrun by sleepy Ballmer-like idiots eventually. That will be the worst nightmare for Tony :D

Pretty much. What other explanation is there for the fact that mobile traffic, app sales, and even Google's mobile revenue, are completely dominated by iOS despite there being more Android handsets sold?

lol I love how that's Tonys crutch talking point no matter what. If Apple started grabbing people off the street and throwing them in ovens, Tony would probably say "Yes but Apple sells more phones and makes more profits than any other vendor...."

Yes, but that's Tony for ya. Back in the early 2000's when Apple was making very little, he would have preached on and on how profits dont matter and Mac OS is superior and that is all that matters. TOny is also exactly the guy who said no-one wants a phone with a larger than 3.5 inch screen LOL.

What is "important" changes with what Apple has in its plus column on any given month.

Remember how for...well, a solid decade Apple guys like Tony would chant "performance and stats don't matter"? With the dawn of the iPhone and iPad though these guys are suddenly all about the performance and hardware of their toys.

They'll just say whatever.

It's called the "little man syndrome". They are like the guy that is really short in school that everyone picks on. Gotta act tough and be really loud with everything they do in order to appear much bigger than they really are. They are afterall, the 6% of the market when it comes to PCs and the 18.8% with mobile phones as of right now.

And that affects me how ?? If you own Apple stock, you don't see anywhere near that. So, what difference does profit make to you ? Besides you being able to run your mouth, of course.
