Not having a Facebook account makes it seem like you have something to hide
The decision to use Facebook or not has always seemed like a choice, but what if
not having an account
made you seem suspicious to the rest of the world?
article pointed out that while most non-Facebook users stay away for reasons like internet addiction, privacy issues or just because they couldn't care less what people are eating every second of the day, others who are on the social network could view this absence as suspicious.
For instance, employers are looking to social networks more and more as a way of learning about current and potential employees. When a worker doesn't have a Facebook, some employers may think that this is a red flag, meaning the person could have deactivated it because they had something to hide.
The suspicion bleeds over to other sectors of our lives too, such as our love lives. The article mentioned that new love interests who don't have a Facebook could be hiding their true identity, or could be hiding another relationship that they don't want to make public.
article also makes quite the leap to implicate the lack of a Facebook account with mass murderers by pointing out that Anders Breivik and James Holmes didn't have a social media presence at all.
While Facebook started out as just a fun way to connect with friends and family, it has become increasingly ubiquitous, making it a hard habit to quit. Now, it seems as if this is being taken a step further, where those on the outside could be shunned.

What's wrong with email to do that or one step further encrypted email for those worried? Or video conference in gmail for close family and friends.
Disconnected my facebook over a year ago and have never looked back,Seemed like one big ego trip where everyone is competing to see who can get the most contacts to make themselves look good.
All it takes is one wrong comment for whatever reason,be it a big night out in town and had a few drinks you say something you shouldn't have and the whole freakin' world knows about it. Go for a new job they look you up "hmmm don't like this" ahhh sorry we already found another person for that position. Email is way better to keep in touch especially if you have video chat enabled,It's more personal and you can say things you may not want others to hear. All these social media sites are overhyped and it seems like a case of keeping up with the Jones's,You have to update your page to keep people thinking you have "A Life".
For me,Email and video for family,Email and steam chat for friends.
Facebook is not fine, I'm sure we will soon be hearing about it being hacked and peoples identities stolen because every single detail about that person is on their page including photos,Photos of a persons face that could be used to make some fake ID I bet, I mean we already have cases of parties being gate crashed by randoms or houses being burgled cause someone has slipped up and said they are going away on holiday.
