Is Sprint getting ready for the next iPhone?
Sprint has announced a price cut over the weekend for its iPhone 4S. Considering that Sprint paid handsomely to get the iPhone on its network and the deal isn't expected to be
for the carrier until 2015, a price cut had to be a difficult decision. Previously, the 16GB iPhone 4S was selling for $199 (under contract) on the Sprint network.
Over the weekend, Sprint cut the price by $50 to a new sales price of $149. The price reduction comes ahead of an expected launch of the next generation iPhone the week of September 9. Historically, price cuts from carriers have come just ahead of the launch of a new version of the iPhone as carriers attempt to clear stock of the existing model.
There has been no official confirmation from Apple that the next generation iPhone will
launch in September
. Generally, invitations to Apple events don't go out until roughly a week before the event is scheduled to be held. That would put invitations for an early September Apple event going out at the end of this month.
Sprint is also waiting activation fee on new iPhone purchases. At this point, the other major iPhone carriers -- Verizon and AT&T -- haven't announced if they will match the Sprint iPhone 4S price and no activation fee promotion.

The only thing more sad than an Apple fanboy are the people who waste even more time being an anti-apple-fanboy. Don't want iStuff? WHO CARES?! Oh but you don't like their prices? That's because you can't comprehend the basic finances of initial cost vs depreciation. Buy an Apple product and years later you will still get close to what you paid for it. This doesn't happen anywhere in the PeeCee world. Example: iPhone 3GS on eBay sells for more than 3X as much as a similar generation Droid. Who's the dummy now?
