Madfinger claims piracy is the reason for Android, but why iOS?
After making the game free for Android users, Madfinger Games recently announced that
will now be free for the iOS crowd as well.
Last month, mobile game developer Madfinger Games made its first-person shooter
free for Android users due to a high rate of piracy
. But now, the developer is also making the game free for iOS, but many suspect piracy is not the issue.
Madfinger Games CEO Marek Rabas spoke about piracy, saying that Google and Apple are doing a poor job with piracy protection on their separate platforms. However, up until now, Madfinger has only openly criticized one of the OS', yet is now treating them the same.
It has been reported that Madfinger Games is not being entirely honest about why it's making the game free on iOS now (or maybe even Android too), but it looks like Madfinger is simply switching to a pure freemium type of system, since most of
money comes from in-app purchases anyway.

The other innocent answer would be they found going to Fremium and Android resulted in enough of a revenue spike that they concluded they'd make more money on iOS doing the same thing.

Or they felt that by being vocal they could get free press because now their game is being talked about on a few major tech news sites, and probably got them a few additional thousand downloads, some of which will end up making in app purchases. Sometimes there really is no such thing as bad press, and this is probably one of those cases.
