The speeds of two existing high-speed Internet tiers have doubled
Comcast is adding some speed to its Internet services this week at no extra charge to its customers.
According to the cable and Internet provider, it's doubling the speeds of two of its Internet tiers:
Blast!, which will go from speeds of 25 Mbps to 50 Mbps, and Extreme 50, which will go from speeds of 50 Mbps to 105 Mbps.
"More customers are simultaneously connecting to the Internet through
tablets, laptops and smartphones within their homes
," said Cathy Avgiris, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Data and Communications Services at Comcast. "Whether it's to stream movies, upload photos, video chat with family and friends, or catch all of the Olympics action live on their tablets and connected devices, we want to ensure these customers are getting the speeds they need.
"We will continue to increase speeds as customer demands evolve. Comcast is committed to providing our customers with even more choices to get the best, fastest and most reliable experience possible."
Comcast also announced its latest Internet plan, Xfinity Platinum Internet. This new addition features download speeds of up to 305 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 65 Mbps as well as free Xfinity Signature Support.
The two existing tiers will double their speeds this week at no extra charge while Xfinity Platinum Internet will launch in certain Northeast markets like Boston, Hartford, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Harrisburg, Baltimore, Washington D.C., Richmond, New Jersey and Wilmington.

GREAT - Now we can get to our caps in hours rather than a day

This is lovely...Let me know when you take off caps. That's all we need. More speed won't help us much if all it does it take you into OVERAGE territory faster.
Google has 1Gbit for $70 and no cap...I hope they kill cable companies. They even offer FREE service for 7 years...LOL. Try competing with this. It's the caps that will cause me to run to ANY other source as soon as I can.
And they wonder why I cancelled cable tv two years ago...LOL. Cable internet next, as soon as I can :) CAP=DUMP THEM ASAP. Google is 1Gbit UP & DOWN also! These losers don't get it. Google and the rest will hopefully put them all out of business soon. I'd expect to see Apple/Microsoft start laying Gbit pipe all over soon also. They have to if they want their TV crap to take off (googletv, appletv etc). You can't be cut off at the knees by cable (like netflix traffic) if you want your service to survive and thrive. You can't have your traffic treated as 2nd compared to cable's own traffic. The only way around that is to have your OWN PIPE like Google in KS. We need that pipe everywhere! :) Come on apple, lay down 40Billion to cover the USA. That would get me to buy an apple product :) Think of how many jobs you'd create, and good will towards your company for doing it! Cable companies have said it would only cost 20Bil to do it so surely google/apple could get this done. Possibly together or apart, either way good for us. Instead we get ATT telling us they have 8billion to buy off Washington to get a merger done with Tmobile...Spend it on the stinking pipe you retards! That 8bil was just for the bribes, not even the purchase! This all just so they could keep you under the thumb forever. Time for all these jerks to be put out of business.

The Google service sounds great but realistically there is a limit to the number of providers you can have on a pole.
Just not enough space to get much more than two unless you have 40ft poles everywhere.

I have Cox and there is no sense of a cap. Cox does have a cap, but they only enforce the cap if it is absolutely necessary. Eventually Google will have to add a cap because it cost money to maintain networks.
The caps relates to maintenance costs because companies have figure out that the total amount data their devices can handle is related to its life span. Complaining that there should be no caps does not work. I agree that caps are bad, but it can not happen unless you are willing to pay more for connection and every else's connection.
Try asking about Business plans. The caps for these probably has no caps or much higher cap. If you get a Business plan with no caps, then you can start complaining that you have to go with a Business plan for no caps.
