Nokia: We Have a "Contingency Plan" if Windows Phone Fails

Could Nokia flip-flop to Android?
After the announcement of
10,000 global job cuts
sent shares of Finnish phonemaker Nokia Oyj.'s (
) stock into a deeper tailspin, the executive ranks were rustled and a new chairman -- Risto Siilasmaa -- was installed.
, a Finnish news site, the new chairman said that Symbian is, for all intents and purposes dead. He
, "Symbian’s market share has come down close to zero."
That makes it all the stranger that Nokia is launching one of its most high end handsets --
with the now effectively end-of-life Symbian Belle
Nokia, which has seen
distinctive Lumia 900 LTE handset
, is hopeful that Microsoft Corp.'s (
Windows Phone 8
wil further drive its receovery. Mr. Siilasmaa says he expects the new OS to be a hit.
But in a surprising comment, he also remarked that Nokia had a "contingency plan" should his company's Windows Phone offerings flop. That admission comes despite partner Microsoft
to prop up the embattled phonemaker.

The big question is what that "contingency plan" is. Seemingly the only possibility would be to jump onboard the Android ship. But with Nokia's weak U.S. market penetration the big question is whether that option is even feasible.

you liked that feature? That feature sucked. If I had a few apps open, I had to scroll through all of them to move around. It might have been ok when you had 2-3 apps open, but I would get into situations of having 6-7 windows open, and then having to scroll through all of them just to get to the one i wanted. Hardly intuitive. A grid of running windows coming up sized according to how many it had to show, eventually showing scroll bars if too many apps were open, and letting me click on which one I wanted to bring to focus would have been a much, much better way to do that type of thing.

Are you kidding? It was widely seena dn the best mobile phone UI ever. It was actually designed by the same guy that designed the original iPhone UI. Palm hired him away from Apple after the iPhone was released. This is his UI 2.0.
Also, press and hold and you can shrink to view all, or even stack the windows (like a hand of poker). WAY better than anything IOS, Android or windows has to offer even to this day.
"It's okay. The scenarios aren't that clear. But it's good looking. [Steve Jobs] does good design, and [the iPad] is absolutely a good example of that." -- Bill Gates on the Apple iPad
