Google's Nexus 7 will be available in 8GB and 16GB versions
It looks as though Google was a little sloppy when it comes to protecting the assets for its upcoming Google I/O conference. An image of the company's Nexus 7 tablet was leaked ahead of schedule along with the full specs for the device.
The Nexus 7 (which measures 198.5 x 120 x 10.45 mm) is made by ASUS, comes with a 7" IPS display with a resolution of 1280x800 (216 PPI), and is powered by a quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor. The Nexus 7 weighs just 12 ounces and is available in 8GB and 16GB versions. All the features that you would expect from a modern tablet are included like a 1.2MP front-facing camera, NFC, an accelerometer, GPS, Bluetooth, and 802.11n wireless.
The Nexus 7 can operate for up to 9 hours (300 hours stanby) thanks to its 4325 mAh battery.
The Nexus 7 also packs
Android 4.1 Jelly Bean
, but since that hasn't been officially announced yet, we'll provide an update to this piece when those details are revealed. In addition, pricing hasn’t been released, although we’ve been hearing $199 for the 8GB version and $249 for the 16GB version.
One bonus that is being included with each Nexus 7 purchase – for a limited time – is the inclusion of $25 in credit to use at the Google Play Store.

There is a large market for good quality 7" tablets. The 10" tablet is just too large for my daughter to use, however she likes the 7". Many people I work with would rather use a 7" table on the train to work than a 10" tablet especially if they are planning to read. Battery life is longer and weight is less. They also work well in your computer bag or purse vs a 10" will require more space (I can't fit a 10" in my computer bag).
There are plenty of times the extra screen size makes a difference especially with movies, however so does a 42" LED TV. Not many of us are going to replace our TVs for tablets, but what the tablet does can be done with 7" just was well as 10".

The 7" niche is taken by Playbook for me, although the crapdroid on this Nexus may be not as crappy as it used to be so I'll give it benefit of the doubt.
I was never interested in 10" tablets like iPad but when I saw the quality and innovation of Surface I kinda started to reconsider. I might get myself a cheaper 32 GB model with WinRT, hopefully for $600 and not more.
Crapdroid on Nexus is rather NO, because it doesn't have SD slot so the only advantage it could have over Playbook is nil.
Next time Google, next time :)
