Google's I/O developer conference started today at 9:30 a.m. PST

A mysterious device has appeared on the Google Play website ahead of its possible announcement at Google's annual I/O developer conference today.

The Nexus Q "social streaming media player" is cloud-based and can stream Google Play Music, Google Play Movies/TV, and YouTube content to your tablet, smartphone, or TV.

According to the Google Play website, the Nexus Q will have a built-in 25W amp, or there's an option to connect the mysterious sphere to an AV receiver or HDTV.

There will also be a Nexus Home app, allowing Android smartphones and tablets to operate the Nexus Q and share information.

The 2-pound device is powered by a dual-core OMAP4460 ARM processor with SGX540 graphics, is powered by Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and included 16GB of internal storage. Like most other Android devices, it supports NFC, Bluetooth, and 802.11n.

Back connectors include Micro HDMI, TOSLink, 10/100 RJ45, MicroUSB, and Banana jack speaker outputs.

The Nexus Q is priced at $299.

Earlier today, the Google Nexus 7 Tablet by ASUS leaked before the conference as well. It features a 7" IPS display with a resolution of 1280x800 (216 PPI), and is powered by a quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor. It also has a 1.2MP front-facing camera, NFC, an accelerometer, GPS, Bluetooth, and 802.11n wireless. In addition, it will offer Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
