The 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-in Hybrid will make an appearance at the 2012 Paris Auto Show

Mitsubishi announced that its second electric vehicle (EV), the 2014 Outlander Plug-in Hybrid, is expected to come to the United States as early as 2013.

According to the automaker, the 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-in Hybrid will have a full-time four-wheel-drive system powered by electric motors, which is the first permanent four-wheel-drive EV in series production.

The new EV also has a similar driving range and CO2 target to the Mitsubishi Concept PX-MiEV II show car, which has a 500 mile driving distance and under 50 g/km CO2 target. So far, a mpg equivalent rating is not yet available.

The Outlander Plug-in Hybrid will have three driving modes, including all-electric, parallel hybrid (electric motors helping the gas engine) and series hybrid (gas engine helping the electric motors).

The new EV will make its way to Europe in 2013, and will be sold in the U.S. in late 2013 or early 2014.

"It is definitely coming here," said Roger Yasukawa, spokesman for Mitsubishi Motors North America. "We are targeting fiscal year 2013 -- which probably means the latter part of 2013 to March 2014. As far as exact timing, we're still studying it."

The 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-in Hybrid will make an appearance at the 2012 Paris Auto Show.

Mitsubishi's first EV-based vehicle was the i MiEV, which has a 62-mile range, a 49 kW AC synchronous rear motor, a 16 kWh lithium-ion battery and a top speed of 81 mph. It carries an MSRP of $27,990, but drops to $20,490 after the $7,500 federal tax credit.

Why settle for $7500?

Break into your neighbors homes and steal everything.
Then the hybrid will be FREE.

But who am I go and stop you from breaking into your neighbour's home and steal everything. Go ahead, because that'll be the dumbest thing you could of ever done. While you are at it, we should stop all corn subsidies, and lowering taxes to the rich/corporations.

Case in point. Look up Sweden's economic policy (your so called socialist) and look at Ireland's economic policy (your republican darling), see where that takes you.

You should have read his post, and read your own, before replying and calling him a moron. Someone has to pay for the credit, and that means the rest of the population that does not receive the credit. Our taxes may not go up, but there will be a loss in services elsewhere. For example, those credits could have built new roads, or been used to pay off the debt. A $7,500 credit paid to (or not taken from) 75M Americans would amount to almost $600B USD.

Totally different issue here. Lower, or higher, taxes across the board is not the same as a credit for some people.

Again, apples and oranges. There are plenty of examples proving the failures of pure socialism and capitalism. The most stable economies are mixed, with the government mostly inactive.

You should read your own post because any game changing technology requires government intervention to some degree. How did internet came about and cellphone technology came about? In your dorm room? Or is it in a Univ/Government R&D lab (that requires funding).

You can argue about the amount (BTW, 75million people are not going to buy EVs anytime soon, so your logic is absurd). That's like saying since there's unemployement insurance, everyone will quit their jobs and get government handout. Plz .... go away ....

You keep spewing out talking point after talking point, but yet Sweden is not "pure socialism". It's just socialism done right while Ireland can very much be where US is heading.
Don't believe me, go read some books.

You "centrist" point of view is based on contrarian logic. The best solution isn't always "the middle of the road" or do whatever is the left and right is not doing, and picking the middle ground.

A man with an opinion is someone who analyses information and process them and forming their own conclusion rather than follow conventional wisdom.

Your logic is about as bad is having no option at all.

Sorry, but this is wrong. In a series hybrid, the combustion engine doesn't directly drive the wheels; the electric traction motors perform all the work. The combustion engine only spins a generator which charges the batteries.
