Plans start at $40/month per smartphone for unlimited voice/text plus $50 for shared data

AT&T and Verizon Wireless have been talking up the idea of shared data family plans for months. Today, however, Verizon Wireless is finally taking the step of announcing its plans to the public.

Under the Share Everything Plan, owners of basic feature phones will pay a base "Monthly Line Access" rate of $30/month per device while smartphone users will pay $40/month per device. Adding USB wireless modems, notebooks, or netbooks will run you $20/month per device and adding a tablet will cost you just $10/month per device. From there, customers can add a minimum of 1GB of shared data between devices for an additional $50/month. The Share Everything Plan tops out at $100 for 10GB of shared data.

Under the Share Everything Plan, all lines have unlimited minutes and unlimited texting (standard/picture/video). So for a family that has three smartphones and wants to share 6GB of data, the total monthly service charges would be $200 ($40 access fee per smartphone and $80 for shared data) before any taxes and additional service charges.

"When developing these plans, we first asked customers what they wanted in a wireless service plan.  We also looked at the technology and how customers were using it to manage their lives.  And last, we took into consideration the evolution of the technology and how customers would use wireless in the future," Erwin added.  "Share Everything Plans are the outcome of that research.  They cover every device Verizon Wireless offers, from basic phones to smartphones, from tablets to Jetpacks and more.  Share Everything Plans represent a tremendous shift in how customers think about wireless service."

The new Share Everything Plan from Verizon Wireless will be available starting June 28.

Not Gonna Do it...

The price at the bottom end really bites. I bet, against current pricing, things are probably decent, but for us grandfathered unlimiteds, it sucks.

Right now, we have 1 basic, 3 androids on our account (all 3 androids have unlimited data) with 1400 minutes (we hardly use half, but we do alot of mobile to mobile and Friends&Family calls that don't consume minutes), after a corporate discount, taxes, and all is $218.53. Typical month, we consume between 5 - 8 GB of data total between the 3 smartphones without any hotspots or tethering.

With the new system, based on an 8GB plan:
$240 + $20 taxes and surcharges = $260
I'm not sure how corporate discounts will work, in the past, it was off the primary account + 1 phone.
In our case, would be $70.20 access + 31.20 first phone + 80 (2 smartphones) + $30 (basic phone) + $20 taxes = $231.40. Only benefit is unlimited calling.
If they discounted the whole thing, it would be $207.20, but still not provide us with enough imho, to switch.

I'm actually planning to pick up a jetpack to move my 4G sim into for a mobile hotspot since I have unlimited. Will be interesting to see what the future holds.
