Lenovo offers branded no-contract mobile broadband
Lenovo has announced the launch of the new, no-contract mobile broadband service for users of its
. The new service is called Lenovo Mobile Access and is intended to give both consumers and business users choice and flexibility for connecting the online services on a budget.
Lenovo reports that the service is now embedded across select models of its ThinkPad line that are available right now in the U.S. and nine different European countries. There are multiple plan options including one that only costs $1.95 and gives 30 minutes of access to mobile broadband. Presumably, the intention of the plan with that little access would be to give people the chance to check e-mail or send e-mail on the go.
Lenovo will also offer a full day pass for $8.95. People that need access on more ongoing basis will be able to sign up for plans monthly, with monthly billing if desired, offering 2 GB or 6 GB of data access. Pricing on the monthly plans is unannounced at this time.
Any Lenovo notebook that ships with an embedded mobile broadband modem will be able to access Lenovo Mobile Access. A single SIM card inside the notebook is used for global access allowing users to still connect to the internet even when roaming in other countries.
"We live in world where it's not only undesirable to be without online access, it's often disruptive to businesses. For that reason we wanted to create a flexible mobile broadband solution that would be unparalleled in its ability to help business users stay connected and working," said Dilip Bhatia, vice president and general manager, ThinkPad Business Unit, Lenovo. “Fundamentally, Lenovo Mobile Access gives individual and corporate customers options to determine how, when and where they want to connect with online applications and services, all at a price that fits their budget."

RE: Speed and data caps?

I can't speak to the data caps, but I was at a Lenovo seminar just a couple weeks ago and they confirmed it was running on the Sprint network.
“Then they pop up and say ‘Hello, surprise! Give us your money or we will shut you down!' Screw them. Seriously, screw them. You can quote me on that.” -- Newegg Chief Legal Officer Lee Cheng referencing patent trolls
